On the evening of April 13, Firefly officially released a hardware upgrade program exclusive to existing owners.

Among the options, a direct TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) upgrade is priced at a limited-time offer of 1,208 RMB(~$177), with up to 2,000 points redeemable. A multifunctional side mirror upgrade is priced at a limited-time offer of 3,458 RMB(~$507), with up to 6,000 points redeemable.

The company stated that these after-sales upgrades involve a relatively large number of components. For example, replacing the side mirrors requires disassembly and reassembly of the vehicle’s related wiring harnesses, the instrument panel, and door trim panels, making the overall process quite time-consuming.

Specifically, the direct TPMS upgrade takes about two hours, while the multifunctional side mirror upgrade takes about 5.5 hours.

Firefly Brand Unveils Hardware Upgrade Program

Shortly after the after-sales upgrade program was announced, it sparked significant dissatisfaction among existing owners, with many taking to social media to express that the upgrade prices were too high and exceeded their expectations.

Notably, Firefly responded quickly to market and user feedback.

Six hours after the new policy was released, Firefly President Daniel issued a video statement, announcing that, in light of user feedback, the payment method for the after-sales upgrades would be adjusted from “limited-time point discount” to “full point payment.” The official channel will also push the updated purchase policy.

Firefly’s market performance is one of the more dramatic stories in the 2025 new energy vehicle market.

In the early days of its launch, its distinctive design drew considerable controversy. Later, however, it managed a sales turnaround, thanks to its more personalized positioning and product strength.

Looking at the sales curve, monthly sales after launch largely remained in the range of 4,000 to 6,000 units, reaching a peak of 7,084 units in December 2025, with five consecutive months of month-on-month growth. As of late March 2026, Firefly had delivered over 50,000 units in total, reaching that milestone in 11 months.

Currently, Firefly has entered 10 countries, covering both Europe and Southeast Asia. According to its roadmap, Firefly — serving as the vanguard of NIO Group’s overseas expansion — plans to have entered a cumulative total of 40 countries and regions worldwide by the end of 2026.
