Overseas markets remained the key growth engine. The automaker exported 160,177 new-energy vehicles during the month, up 80.7% year-on-year. As China’s domestic market approaches maturity, BYD continues to hold local volume while accelerating its global expansion. Cumulative exports in 2026 have already surpassed 600K units.

A notable shift emerged in the product mix. Battery-electric vehicle sales reached 198,674 units, overtaking plug-in hybrid sales of 178,316 units for the first time this year.

The trend marks a reversal from February, when plug-in hybrid sales exceeded battery-electric deliveries by nearly 20K units. The gap narrowed to less than 1,000 units in March and April.

The rebound in battery-electric demand likely reflects the rollout of BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery and ultra-fast charging technology. Improvements in range and charging speed have helped address key consumer concerns.

Within the Dynasty Series lineup, deliveries reached 151,537 units. The Yuan family (Yuan UP, Yuan Plus) delivered 56,691 units. The Song family contributed 79,125 units. The Song Ultra, the first model equipped with the second-generation Blade Battery plus flash-charging technology, remains in a production ramp-up phase due to battery supply constraints.

Xia, Qin, Han, Tang recorded deliveries of 1,810 units, 28,360 units, 6,310 units, 6,996 units, respectively.

The Ocean Series delivered 170,312 units. Seagull contributed 39,919 units. The updated version offers the DiPilot 100 “God’s Eye B” intelligent driving package, making it one of the few vehicles in its segment equipped with advanced driver-assistance functions.

The Sea Lion 06, positioned as the successor to the Song Plus, surpassed 100K cumulative deliveries within 100 days of launch. April deliveries reached 21,359 units, ranking first among mid-size SUVs.

Dolphin, Seal, Sea Lion delivered 22,260 units, 34,117 units, 42,615 units, respectively.

Notably, the Song Plus, marketed overseas as the Seal U after domestic production ended, delivered 27,755 units. Most sales came from international markets.

Denza delivered 16,303 vehicles in May. The Z9 Series contributed 5,952 units, led by the Z9 GT. Equipped with the second-generation Blade Battery and flash-charging technology, the updated model exceeded 10K cumulative sales within two months of launch, reversing previous weakness.

The Denza D9, N7, N8L, N9 delivered 6,721 units, 33 units, 2,032 units, 1,565 units, respectively.

Fangchengbao delivered 30,186 vehicles, marking a third consecutive month of growth.

The Tai 7 remained the brand’s volume pillar with 18,280 deliveries. The model surpassed 10K deliveries in its launch month. A battery-electric version debuted last month, featuring the second-generation Blade Battery and flash-charging technology. Sales are expected to rise further next month.

Yangwang delivered 286 vehicles. The U8 accounted for 233 units; the U9 and U7 delivered 7 and 46 units, respectively.

Overall, supply constraints tied to the second-generation Blade Battery have limited deliveries of several models. Additional production capacity could provide another boost to BYD’s sales momentum.

The company also unveiled its in-house Xuanji A3 intelligent driving chip last week, pledging safety coverage for urban assisted-driving functions.
