- BYD’s Fangchengbao Tai 9 spies show a full-width horizontal cockpit, marking a major interior design shift.
- Tai 9’s large, boxy SUV body exceeds 5.2m, offers 5/6/7-seat layouts and rugged off-road styling.
- Hardware likely matches Bao-range with 2nd-gen Blade battery, Flash Charging, lidar and “God’s Eye B” driving.
A newly leaked spy photo has revealed part of the interior of the Fangchengbao Tai 9, suggesting BYD is preparing one of its biggest cockpit design changes in recent years.
The image shows a wide full-width display stretching across the center console. If confirmed, the Tai 9 would become BYD’s first mass-production model to adopt a horizontal full-width cockpit layout.

Until now, models under BYD’s Dynasty Series, Ocean Series, Denza, and Fangchengbao brands have all relied on large floating center displays. The Tai 9 appears to abandon that design in favor of a full-width display, signaling a new direction for BYD’s intelligent cockpit design language.
The Tai 9’s exterior has also surfaced multiple times in previous spy shots.
Earlier images showed the SUV adopting Fangchengbao’s signature boxy styling. A roof-mounted lidar sensor points to advanced driver-assistance capabilities. The front fascia retains the rugged SUV look, with ring-shaped lighting elements reminiscent of the Bao 5. The overall body appears noticeably larger, giving the vehicle a stronger visual presence.

In terms of size, the Tai 9 is expected to measure more than 5.2 meters in length. The SUV features an upright body profile, factory-installed power side steps, low-drag wheels, and a forward-leaning D-pillar design. BYD is expected to offer five-, six-, and seven-seat configurations, combining off-road styling with greater everyday practicality.

On the hardware side, the Tai 9 is expected to match the higher-end Bao Series models. Expected equipment includes BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery, Flash Charging technology, and the “God’s Eye B” intelligent driving system.
The new model arrives as Fangchengbao continues its rapid expansion. The brand delivered 35,607 vehicles in June, up 88.4% year-on-year, up 18% from May. Cumulative sales have exceeded 456K units, while the average transaction price has topped 224K RMB ($32.9K).
The Tai 7 has emerged as the brand’s biggest success. Since its launch last September, cumulative deliveries have approached 185K units within 10 months, making it one of China’s best-selling new-energy SUVs over the past year.
