From January to June 2025, Chinese brands held a 55% market share in Russia, which rebounded to 57% in June alone.
On July 21, Cui Dongshu, current Secretary-General of the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), released the “June 2025 Russia Auto Market Analysis Report.”
According to the data, auto sales in Russia reached 100,000 units in June 2025, a year-on-year decline of 31% and a 2% drop compared to May. For the first half of the year (January–June), cumulative sales stood at 600,000 units, down 29% year-on-year. Chinese brands accounted for 55% of the market during this period, with their share rising to 57% in June alone.

Looking at the “monthly sales trend chart of the Russian auto market,” we can see that the industry experienced dramatic fluctuations in recent years due to the pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Sales volumes tumbled from nearly 3 million units in 2008 to just 687,000 units in 2022.
Thanks to stable supply from Chinese automakers, total auto sales in Russia rebounded to 1.83 million units in 2024, setting a recent annual high and creating significant growth opportunities for Chinese independent brands. In 2025, the market has gradually stabilized, with monthly sales holding steady at around 100,000 units.

With the entry of Chinese carmakers, the market share of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in Russia is also expanding. According to June 2025 data on local NEV demand, monthly pure EV sales grew from 801 units at the beginning of the year to 1,184 units.
Due to weak technology and product competitiveness, Russian domestic automakers mainly focus on the low-end price segment. Below are the top five Chinese auto groups in terms of cumulative sales in the Russian market: Chery Group, Great Wall Motors, Geely Group, Changan Group and JAC Group.
Chery Group is the most popular Chinese brand in Russia. In 2024, its monthly sales exceeded 30,000 units, and its cumulative sales in 2025 have already reached 110,862 units. Chery operates under a comprehensive model in Russia, combining local production, contract manufacturing, and imported vehicles across multiple brands.
Following closely is Great Wall Motors, with the Haval and Tank brands contributing 96% of its total sales. Geely also performs well with both its locally assembled and imported models, with standout performance from Zeekr. Geely’s cumulative sales this year have reached 1,459 units.
