GAC Toyota Denies Rumors of Discontinuing Multiple Best-Selling Fuel Models

GAC Toyota officially stated that it will consistently adhere to the “ICE and EV equally strong” strategy.

On November 19, media reports claimed that GAC Toyota would discontinue at least two main fuel models by 2026.

The report indicated that one model is a compact sedan with monthly sales of over a thousand units, while the other is a mid-size SUV with monthly sales exceeding ten thousand units. These two models contributed nearly 130,000 units to GAC Toyota’s sales in the first 10 months of this year, accounting for about one-fifth of its total sales.

The news quickly sparked public attention and discussion once reported.

GAC Toyota’s Vice President of Sales, Peng Baolin, has officially denied the rumors.

In response to the market rumors, GAC Toyota’s Vice President of Sales, Peng Baolin, took to Weibo that same evening to refute the claims, stating: “This is false information.”

Peng further elaborated on the company’s product strategy: GAC Toyota consistently implements the “ICE and EV equally strong” strategy, actively promoting electrification transformation while continuing to iterate and upgrade fuel models. The company is committed to providing consumers with diversified, high-value product choices across all powertrain routes.

This statement aligns with Toyota China’s recent strategic adjustments.

It is reported that Toyota China is reevaluating its “sister model” strategy in China—where slightly differentiated versions of the same model are sold under both FAW Toyota and GAC Toyota. Industry insiders believe that in an era of stock competition, sister models can easily lead to internal price wars, and shifting to “each producing models they excel at” would allow for better resource allocation.

Notably, while denying the rumors, GAC Toyota also demonstrated its commitment to the dual-track fuel and EV strategy through new product launches.

The all-new Wildlander has been launched.

On November 20, the fully redesigned fuel SUV Wildlander officially launched, adopting Toyota’s latest KEEN LOOK design language. It offers a 2.0L fuel version and a fifth-generation smart electric hybrid version, with WLTC fuel consumption as low as 4.5L/100km.

Following closely, at the Guangzhou Auto Show opening on November 21, GAC Toyota will fully unveil the Bozhi 7, a flagship D-class pure electric sedan developed through a deep collaboration with Huawei featuring the Harmony Cockpit, and share breakthroughs in the intelligent electric vehicle field.
