Despite the month-on-month decline, Leapmotor has become one of the fastest-growing Chinese automotive brands in Italy’s new energy vehicle market.

Including first-quarter figures, Leapmotor’s cumulative registrations in Italy reached 16,133 units in the January-April period, representing year-on-year growth of 1,702.6%.

In Italy’s battery electric vehicle market, Leapmotor ranked first with a 33.5% market share.

In the private BEV retail market, Leapmotor’s share exceeded 51%, meaning more than half of all privately purchased EVs in Italy during April came from the Chinese brand.

The core driver behind the sales growth remained the T03 compact EV. The model recorded 4,090 registrations in April, up 1,726% year-on-year, accounting for 91% of Leapmotor’s total sales volume.

The T03 climbed to third place in Italy’s overall passenger vehicle sales rankings during the month.

Within the pure electric segment, the T03 captured a 30.74% market share, maintaining its position as Italy’s best-selling EV and significantly outperforming rivals such as the Citroën C3 and BYD Dolphin Surf.

The T03’s success in Europe is closely tied to Stellantis’ distribution resources.

Since Stellantis acquired a stake in Leapmotor in 2023 and established Leapmotor International, the two companies have shared sales and distribution networks across Europe.

Beyond the entry-level T03, the Leapmotor B10 also ranked first in Italy’s private C-segment electric SUV market.

BYD registrations reached 17,489 units in the first four months of 2026, up 189.7% year-on-year.

Growth in the plug-in hybrid market was particularly strong. BYD registered 3,580 PHEVs in April, securing the top market position with a 26.17% share.

The Seal U and Atto 2 ranked as Italy’s two best-selling plug-in hybrid models during the month.

Meanwhile, SAIC MG registrations rose 3.8% year-on-year to 21,753 units in the January-April period, while Chery’s Omoda brand reached 8,441 registrations, up more than fivefold from a year earlier.
