- China’s NEV fleet now ships with L2+ ADAS widely, reflecting makers pushing driver assistance into standard spec to defend share amid intense price and feature competition from domestic rivals.
- From Jan–Aug 2026, L2+ ADAS fitment hit 88.9% of NEV passenger cars, AEB 84.9%, ACC 80.9%, ALC 40.9% and APA 60.8%, signaling broad hardware/software rollouts.
- Targets include mainstream NEV sedans and SUVs, but execution risks persist around software validation, safety regulation, supply chain scaling and margin pressure as features migrate downmarket.
The CPCA released the August 2026 Automotive Intelligent Connectivity Insights Report, detailing new energy vehicle (NEV) sales trends and advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) fitment rates.
China’s NEV sales reached 1.822 million units in September 2026, up 10.9% MoM and 13.6% YoY. NEVs accounted for 61.6% of total vehicle sales.

NEV passenger car sales totaled 1.698 million units, up 12.0% YoY, while NEV commercial vehicle sales rose 41.8% YoY to 125,000 units.
By vehicle segment, NEV sedans accounted for 32.9% of the market in September, down 9.5 percentage points YoY. SUVs captured 55.9%, up 8.2 percentage points.
The report also detailed fitment rates for various ADAS features. From January to August 2026, L2-level and higher driver assistance systems were installed in 88.9% of China’s NEV passenger cars.

Fitment rates continued to rise among lower-priced models costing less than RMB 160K, as driver assistance features increasingly shift from optional extras to essential buying criteria.
Automatic emergency braking (AEB) reached a fitment rate of 84.9% among NEV passenger cars during the same period. With continued technological advances, it has become a standard active-safety feature in most vehicles.

Adaptive cruise control (ACC), including full-speed-range operation, reached 80.9%. Improvements in technology and lower costs have helped make it a standard feature across more models.
Automatic lane change (ALC) had a fitment rate of 40.9%. As systems improve and functions become more deeply integrated, ALC is moving from a premium option toward broader standard adoption, becoming an increasingly important part of driver assistance systems.
Automatic parking assistance (APA) reached a fitment rate of 60.8%, with adoption rising rapidly as the feature becomes more convenient to use.

The report also examined intelligent driving at the Paris Motor Show. A record 16 Chinese automakers, representing 25 brands, participated in this year’s event. For the first time, the show offered public road tests of driver assistance systems. Only XPeng and Tesla took part; no European automakers appeared on the test-drive list.
