- XPeng teases MONA L03 SUV with 183 kW motor, LFP battery, and five-seat layout for young families.
- L03 ships VLA 2.0 vision-only ADAS and up to 1,500 TOPS with dual Turing chips on top trims.
- MONA expansion targets mainstream volume while XPeng pushes G and P lines upmarket to protect margins.
On June 22, XPeng officially unveiled the second model in its MONA series. Named the “MONA L03,” the vehicle marks the lineup’s first SUV and is slated for an imminent market launch.
Regarding the nomenclature, XPeng CEO He Xiaopeng revealed that the series was initially greenlit under the internal codename “MONALISA.” While the past two years focused solely on “MONA,” “LISA” represents the upcoming SUV segment.
The vehicle cleared China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) filing back in April, primarily targeting young families.

According to the MIIT filing, the MONA L03 features a five-seat layout across all variants. It measures 4,650/4,672 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,600 mm in height, with a 2,850 mm wheelbase—making it slightly smaller than XPeng’s existing G6 all-electric SUV.
The variance in body length stems from optional exterior appearance packages.

In terms of powertrain, the SUV is equipped with a 183 kW single electric motor paired with a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack supplied by CALB.
Smart driving capabilities will serve as the core differentiator for this model. The L03 comes standard with the VLA 2.0 vision-only advanced driver assistance system (ADAS). Depending on the trim, it features either one or two of XPeng’s self-developed Turing chips, with the high-end Ultra SE variant delivering up to 1,500 TOPS of computing power.

Alongside the L03, another SUV model, the L05, has also surfaced in recent MIIT filings. This sends a clear signal: the MONA series is rapidly scaling into a full-category product portfolio to capture a larger share of the mainstream market.

According to May delivery data compiled by ChinaEV Home, XPeng’s total domestic volume reached 25.6K units, with the MONA M03 alone contributing 14.1K units—accounting for over 55% of the total and showcasing a massive sales concentration.

While this entry-level-heavy sales mix protects XPeng’s market share in the short term, over-reliance on lower-margin models exerts underlying financial pressure on the brand’s overall revenue scale and consolidated gross margins.
This explains XPeng’s urgency to roll out the upcoming GX model. The brand critically needs a higher-end vehicle to move upmarket, balancing out the long-term financial vulnerabilities introduced by its surging entry-level sales.

In the long run, the MONA series will anchor the mainstream, budget-conscious segment. This pivot frees the core XPeng brand—specifically the G and P series—from low-price price wars, allowing them to shift entirely toward the premium $28K+ (RMB 200K+) market.
