Tesla Model 3 Long-Range RWD Starts at $37,730, Offering Up to 830 km Range

The Model 3 Long-Range RWD starts at ¥269,500 ($37,730), delivering up to 830 km range—a new record for Tesla mass-production vehicles. Deliveries are expected to begin in September.

On August 12, Tesla officially launched the Model 3 Long-Range RWD in China with a starting price of ¥269,500 ($37,730). Dubbed the “longest-range Model 3 ever,” it sets a new brand record with an 830 km CLTC range. Deliveries are slated to begin in September.

Meanwhile, the upgraded Model 3 Performance AWD improves its CLTC range from 623 km to 647 km, while maintaining the previous price of ¥339,500 ($47,530).

Both new versions are now listed on Tesla China’s official website.

Compared to the ¥235,500 ($33,000) RWD entry version, the new Long-Range RWD costs ¥34,000 ($4,760) more, with enhancements to both power and battery.

The China lineup now includes four Model 3 variants: two RWD models, the Long-Range AWD, and the Performance AWD, priced from ¥285,500 ($39,970) and ¥339,500 ($47,530) respectively.

In terms of design, the new variant keeps the current Model 3’s sleek styling with slim headlights, a closed-off grille, and sculpted front bumper lines for a sharper look. A new “Model 3+” badge at the rear distinguishes it from the standard version. Dimensions remain unchanged at 4720×1848×1442 mm, with a 2875 mm wheelbase.

The car is powered by a rear-mounted 3D6 motor producing 225 kW, cutting 0–100 km/h acceleration to 5.2 seconds (vs. 6.1 seconds for the base RWD).

The battery switches from CATL’s LFP pack to LG’s 78.4 kWh NCM unit, raising charging speed from 170 kW to 250 kW. Depending on wheels, it offers 830 km (18-inch) or 800 km (19-inch) CLTC range.

Tesla attributes the range boost to improved battery system energy density and thermal management. Many Chinese EV buyers see the 830 km range + ¥269,500 ($37,730) price combo as highly competitive—directly rivalling the 2024 Xiaomi SU7 Pro, which also claims 830 km CLTC range.

Alongside the launch, Tesla introduced a “free transfer of Full Self-Driving (FSD)” policy in China, allowing owners to retain their purchased FSD when trading in for a new Tesla.

From January to July 2024, Tesla delivered 304,027 vehicles in China (down 6.32% year-on-year). Model 3 sales in the same period reached 101,770 units, up 26.54%.
