Chery and Jaguar Land Rover’s jointly developed FREELANDER brand has released official interior images of its first model, the FREELANDER 8.
Unlike the dual-screen layouts widely used by Chinese new energy vehicles, the FREELANDER 8 adopts a Full-width distant dashboard display stretching from the driver’s side to the passenger side.
The screen replaces the traditional instrument cluster position, showing driving information, vehicle status and real-time data. FREELANDER said the display delivers four times the resolution of a 4K screen, with peak brightness reaching 1,000 nits.
The design resembles cabin layouts seen on models from Avatr and Xiaomi’s YU7, shifting driving information away from the traditional instrument area into a larger digital interface.
The FREELANDER 8 also features a 15.6-inch LED central display and dual wireless charging pads. Unlike some new energy vehicles that remove physical controls entirely, the FREELANDER 8 retains a physical button area below the center screen.
The steering wheel adopts a rugged design, with roller-style control buttons on both sides. The overall styling maintains elements seen on several Jaguar Land Rover models.
The production version closely follows the design concept of the Concept 97 model. It features a boxy body profile, clean lines, wide wheel arches, and a vertical rear design.
The FREELANDER 8 measures 5,185 mm in length, 2,050 mm in width and 1,898 mm in height, with a 3,040 mm wheelbase. The cabin adopts a six-seat layout.
Exterior colors include Gloss Silver, Fjord Blue, Copper, Midnight Black and Cloud White, along with limited editions in Heat Gold Lemon, Twilight Purple and Matte Silver.
The model also supports an optional towing package, with a maximum trailer weight of 2,000 kg, targeting outdoor scenarios such as camping and towing.
For intelligent driving, the FREELANDER 8 will be equipped with Huawei Qiankun ADS 5 and a Huawei 896-line LiDAR sensor.
The vehicle is expected to use a 60.331 kWh CATL battery pack, offering around 221 km of CLTC pure electric range. It will also feature a 1.5T range extender with a maximum output of 115 kW.
Off-road capability is one of the FREELANDER 8’s key highlights. The vehicle comes with an i-ATS intelligent all-terrain system, enabling road condition recognition and optimized driving strategies.
It also features a front mechanical differential lock, rear e-LSD electronic limited-slip differential, virtual center lock, and a closed dual-chamber air suspension system. The combination aims to balance capability in challenging terrain with comfort in urban driving.
The premium off-road new-energy SUV is scheduled to officially hit the market in the second half of 2026, under the plan.
The FREELANDER 8 represents a new EV-era collaboration between Chery and Jaguar Land Rover. Unlike traditional luxury brands that rely on heritage and mechanical performance, FREELANDER aims to combine Jaguar Land Rover’s SUV expertise with China’s strengths in electrification and intelligent vehicle technologies.
The brand is targeting the fast-growing premium new energy SUV market. Under the plan, FREELANDER will launch six models over the next five years, covering pure electric, range-extender and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The brand will start from China before expanding into major global markets.
