Chery Reaches 20 Million Global Sales Milestone Over 29 Years

Chery Group officially announced that its global cumulative vehicle sales have officially surpassed the 20 million mark.

From the first vehicle to the 20 millionth, Chery Group has taken 29 years, becoming the first Chinese automaker to achieve this milestone.

Chery Group cumulative sales exceed 20 million units

Data shows that in the first half of 2026, Chery Group’s cumulative sales reached 1,357,533 vehicles, up 7.7% year-on-year.

Exports have become the core engine of Chery’s growth – in the first half of the year, cumulative exports reached 943,800 vehicles, up 71.5% year-on-year, setting a new monthly export record for Chinese automobiles for four consecutive months. In June alone, exports hit 191,062 vehicles, up 79.7% year-on-year, marking the first time monthly exports exceeded 190,000 units.

The company said that Chery has now entered more than 130 countries and regions worldwide, with nearly 7 million overseas users, accounting for about 35% of its 20 million global users – meaning that one in every three Chery owners is from overseas.

In the first half of this year, exports surged to account for 69.5% of Chery’s total sales, a direct increase of nearly 20 percentage points from the roughly 50% level recorded for the full year 2025.

Specifically, the bulk of the growth came from Europe. From January to May 2026, Chery sold 138,843 vehicles in 24 European countries, more than doubling year-on-year; first-half sales in Europe reached 174,000 units, up 212% year-on-year, with new energy vehicles accounting for 50%.

In the past, many people held the ingrained impression that Chery’s overseas success relied on its fuel-powered vehicles as the safety net. However, judging from the growth drivers in the first half of the year, new energy vehicles have become the main engine of growth.

In the first half of the year, Chery’s NEV exports grew 164.9% year-on-year, while cumulative NEV sales in the European market from January to May reached 68,949 units, up 458.62% yoy.

Driven by overseas demand, Chery’s total NEV sales in the first half reached 475,238 units, up 32.3% year-on-year. Among them, June sales alone hit 113,583 units, up 58.7% yoy.

2026 is a major product year for Chery. According to the plan, Chery Group will launch 17 all-new or major facelift models throughout the year, covering its five brands – Chery, Fengyun, Exeed, iCAR, and Jetour – and multiple powertrain types including gasoline, pure electric, hybrid, and range-extended.

In terms of sales targets, Chery Group’s goal for 2026 is 3.2 million units. Although the first-half completion rate reached 42.4%, Chery Automobile Chairman Yin Tongyue recently stressed that there are still more products in the second half and next year that will make performance “jump.”

Fortune 500 profit margin and ROE ranking

In the latest 2026 Fortune China 500 list, Chery Automobile made its debut as a listed company, ranking 87th. On the return on equity (ROE) ranking, Chery ranked eighth with an ROE of 36.5%, the highest among automotive companies.
