- Partnership with XPeng powers ID. UNYX models with 1,500 TOPS computing and VLA 2.0 autonomous tech.
- VW (Anhui) ramps exports and domestic smart-EV lineup as deliveries surged 170% year-on-year.
On Aug. 18, Volkswagen (Anhui) rolled off its 100,000th smart electric vehicle at its Hefei plant. The milestone vehicle was the ID. UNYX 08, which was also delivered at the event.
Volkswagen (Anhui) was established in 2017 as a joint venture between Volkswagen Group and JAC Motors. It was originally known as JAC Volkswagen, becoming Volkswagen’s first joint venture in China focused on new energy vehicles.

At the end of 2020, Volkswagen raised its stake to 75%, renaming the company Volkswagen (Anhui). The business shifted its focus toward new energy vehicle development and production.
Volkswagen (Anhui) began mass production in 2024, with the Cupra Tavascan as its first model. The vehicle mainly targets overseas markets, forming a key part of Volkswagen (Anhui)’s export-plus-domestic strategy.
Volkswagen (Anhui) now has two product lines, Cupra and ID. UNYX.

In the first half of 2026, the ID. UNYX 06, ID. UNYX 07 and ID. UNYX 08 entered the market, expanding Volkswagen (Anhui)’s local lineup. Cupra Tavascan production remains focused on overseas markets.
The ID. UNYX 08 is the first mass-produced model launched after Volkswagen’s partnership with XPeng. The model went on sale in April at a starting price of RMB 229.9K ($34.1K). It uses two XPeng Turing AI chips with combined computing power of 1,500 TOPS, plus XPeng’s second-generation VLA 2.0 intelligent driving system.

Volkswagen formed a strategic partnership with XPeng in July 2023, later investing about $700M in the Chinese EV maker. The partnership focuses in part on XPeng’s technology in smart EVs, electrical architecture and intelligent driving, helping Volkswagen speed up EV development for China.
The partners’ second model, the ID. UNYX 09, has also completed its regulatory filing. It is positioned as a midsize pure-electric coupe.
The model was filed with Chinese regulators in July. It measures 5,081 mm in length, 1,980 mm in width and 1,509 mm in height, with a 3,030 mm wheelbase. Two powertrain versions are planned: rear-wheel drive with a single motor, and all-wheel drive with dual motors. The model is expected to launch later this year.

The partnership highlights a shift in Volkswagen’s approach to new energy vehicle development in China.
Volkswagen previously relied mainly on established global platforms and its local joint-venture system. As competition in China’s EV market shifts toward smart technology, the automaker is bringing in more Chinese technology, shortening development cycles and accelerating product updates.
With the ID. UNYX 06, ID. UNYX 07 and ID. UNYX 08 already on sale, plus the upcoming ID. UNYX 09, Volkswagen (Anhui) is set to further expand its smart EV lineup.

Volkswagen (Anhui) delivered 2,149 vehicles in July, up 170% year on year. The ID. UNYX 06 accounted for 1,102 units, followed by 914 units for the ID. UNYX 07, while the ID. UNYX 08 delivered 133 units.
