VW Anhui Unveils ID. UNYX 08 Special Edition with XPeng VLA 2.0

Takeaways
  • VW Anhui launches ID. UNYX 08 Shadow Edition at RMB 230K with sport upgrades and luxury kit.
  • Shadow Edition keeps the same 95 kWh/800V powertrain and 730 km CLTC range.
  • It debuts XPeng’s VLA 2.0 ADAS with dual Turing chips, first JV model to adopt the system.

Volkswagen (Anhui) unveiled the ID. UNYX 08 Shadow Edition at the 2026 Chengdu Motor Show on Aug. 21, setting a pre-sale price of RMB 230K ($34.2K).

The ID. UNYX 08 went on sale in April as a midsize-to-large electric SUV. It is currently offered in Pure, Ultra and Max trims, priced at RMB 229.9K–289.9K ($34.2K–$43.1K). The Shadow Edition is based on the Ultra trim.

Compared with the Ultra, the Shadow Edition adds an upgrade package worth RMB 40.8K ($6.1K). It includes a dedicated sport package, blacked-out wheels, orange Brembo four-piston calipers, Vibracoustic dual-chamber air suspension and ZF DCC adaptive damping. The package also adds an onboard refrigerator, foldable rear table and UWB smart key.

The SUV runs Pirelli P ZERO F1 tires. Volkswagen (Anhui) says it reaches 79.2 km/h in the moose test, further sharpening its sport focus without giving up ride comfort.

The powertrain remains unchanged. It uses a 95 kWh CATL battery, paired with an 800V high-voltage platform. CLTC range stands at 730 km.

Smart driving is the main draw. The Shadow Edition gets XPeng’s VLA 2.0 large-model driver-assistance system, backed by dual Turing chips with combined computing power of 1,500 TOPS. It is the first joint-venture model in China to use the system.

VLA 2.0 supports NOA on urban roads, highways, campuses and parking lots. It can also handle narrow-road passing, accident detours and obstacle avoidance in complex traffic.

XPeng has already deployed VLA 2.0 across a broad range of production models in China. The system has also completed road testing in Germany, covering European traffic conditions such as urban roads, narrow streets and differing traffic rules.

XPeng’s Robotaxi, also powered by Turing chips, has also entered internal testing. The broader deployment gives the VLA 2.0 stack a real-world validation base for the ID. UNYX 08.

Market demand for the ID. UNYX 08, however, remains weak. The model faced a cold market response after its initial launch, partly due to pricing. Volkswagen (Anhui) later cut the price by RMB 20K ($3.0K), but sales have yet to gain traction amid fierce competition in China’s RMB 200K–300K ($29.8K–$44.6K) electric SUV market.

Volkswagen (Anhui) delivered 2,149 vehicles in July. The ID. UNYX 08 accounted for just 133 units.

The Shadow Edition therefore looks less like a routine trim expansion than a response to market feedback. Volkswagen (Anhui) is adding chassis, performance and smart-driving hardware to the family-oriented SUV, sharpening its sport credentials while seeking a broader customer base.
