On the evening of May 12, Huawei’s Qiankun Intelligent Automotive Solution released an “Upgrade Guide,” preview of Huawei Qiankun ADS OTA Updates for May.
The “Upgrade Guide” includes four key updates:
– Horn Alert for Intelligent Driving Assistance: When using NCA or LCC on highways or urban expressways, the system will automatically honk if a vehicle in the adjacent lane attempts to cut in abruptly.
– Active Feedback on Intelligent Driving Assistance Deactivation: If NCA is manually deactivated by the user (e.g., by pressing the brake), the system will prompt the user on the central screen to provide feedback on the reason for deactivation.
– Adaptive High Beam Switching in Risk Scenarios: In autonomous driving mode, the system will automatically activate high beams when encountering risk scenarios such as rows of cones or accident vehicles, and deactivate them once the vehicle has passed the hazardous area.
– eAES Expansion: The eAES (emergency Avoidance Steering) function will now support additional models, including the Voyah Dreamer Qiankun Edition and the Luxeed S7/R7. This feature enables the system to perform emergency steering to avoid obstacles if the braking distance for AEB (Autonomous Emergency Braking) is insufficient.
This marks the first ADAS OTA preview since April 16, when the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) issued a notice further strengthening the management of product access, recalls, and over-the-air (OTA) software updates for intelligent connected vehicles.
At the time, reports indicated that companies in the midst of technology launches or promotional campaigns rushed to revise terms like “smart driving” and “autonomous driving” overnight.
Over the past month, Intelligent Driving Assistance OTA updates have essentially been put on hold.
As such, even as a preview, Huawei Qiankun’s “Upgrade Guide” carries significant implications: it may signal that a batch of brands have now obtained approval for their Intelligent Driving Assistance upgrade content.
One additional point worth noting is that while Huawei has adhered to a more cautious approach in its recent promotional language regarding intelligent driving assistance, its pace and positioning remain assertive.
On April 22, when Huawei Qiankun launched ADS 4, HarmonySpace 5 for its smart cockpit, and the HUAWEI MC Digital Chassis Engine, it also unveiled a commercial solution for highway L3 autonomous driving, laying the groundwork for its commercialization.
If Huawei does indeed become the first to break the recent silence in China’s intelligent connected vehicle sector, the question arises: who will be next to update their Intelligent Driving Assistance features?
Will it be Tesla’s FSD, NIO’s World Model, or Li Auto’s VLA?
