Firefly will start deliveries in the Netherlands and Norway by the end of July.
Today, Firefly hosted a media briefing focused on safety technology at the NIO House in Hefei Xinqiao Industrial Park.

This event marked ChinaEV Home’s first close-up look at crash-tested vehicles. Below are key observations from the scene:
NIO has consistently prioritized robust safety design and materials. Beyond reinforced body structures, the vehicle features 9 airbags that comprehensively envelop the cabin. Attendees who experienced the interior noted a tangible sense of “all-around protection.”
As Firefly President Daniel Jin stated: “Safety features may seem invisible until critical moments arise. These ‘redundant’ designs become a critical lifeline in emergencies.”

Firefly also refined subtle details — for example, the rear-seat seatbelt buckles adopt a dynamic locking tongue design that minimizes webbing slippage from shoulders to hips, enhancing restraint effectiveness. On-site comparisons confirmed its superiority over conventional buckles. Specific crash test data will be revealed in Firefly’s official release.
ChinaEV Home secured an exclusive interview with President Daniel Jin, revealing Firefly’s overseas expansion strategy for H2 2025:
- July 2025: Deliveries begin in the Netherlands and Norway.
- Q3–Q4 2025: Other markets (via general distributors) to follow.

To support its European expansion, Firefly is actively broadening local partnerships. On July 8, HERE Technologies announced a collaboration to provide high-precision map data and location services for Firefly, enhancing ADAS performance, safety, energy efficiency, and driving experience.
Chris Chen, Vice President of NIO Global Business Development, emphasized that HERE’s automotive-grade positioning technology is mission-critical for meeting international safety and compliance standards.
Firefly plans to enter more than 15 European markets by the end of 2026, including Austria, Belgium, Czechia, Hungary, Poland, and Romania. Positioned as NIO’s most accessible EV, it will compete directly with MINI and Smart.
