- In the Chinese market, BYD offers full liability coverage for safety and damage incurred during smart parking scenarios across all vehicles equipped with its DiPilot system.
- The number of vehicles equipped with BYD’s DiPilot system has surpassed 1 million units.
On July 9, BYD announced that its “DiPilot” system (including DiPilot 100, 300, and 600)—known in Chinese as “God’s Eye”—has achieved autonomous parking capabilities comparable to Level 4 (L4) automation. In a first for the industry, the company also pledged full liability coverage for any damages incurred during the use of this feature in the Chinese market.

According to BYD’s aftersales division, the core advantage of the new guarantee lies in simplifying the claims process. In the event of an accident involving the smart parking function, users can bypass traditional insurance procedures and file claims directly with BYD, thereby avoiding increased premiums in subsequent years. As most automakers have yet to clearly define responsibility for advanced driver-assistance functions, users often bear part of the risk themselves. BYD’s move marks the inaugural instance of a Chinese automaker proposing a “direct compensation by the manufacturer” model.
Under globally recognized autonomous driving classification standards, L4 automation enables vehicles to perform all driving tasks within specific scenarios—without driver intervention—and transfers both operational and legal responsibility to the system. BYD’s liability commitment in the parking context signals a rare step toward formal accountability in the automotive industry.
The announcement also comes alongside a major over-the-air (OTA) upgrade. New features for the DiPilot system include three-speed parking control, detour maneuvering, and alerts for sudden vehicle cut-ins, covering functions related to parking, driving, and safety. The update will be rolled out across multiple BYD models.

Originally launched in July 2023 with the Denza N7, the DiPilot system has, in just two years, expanded to over 1 million vehicles across BYD’s Dynasty, Ocean, and Denza product lines.
With falling costs of LiDAR and high-performance computing chips, BYD aims to bring advanced smart driving to a broader range of users. By combining “technical breakthroughs with liability assurance,” BYD is redefining the automaker’s role from a tool provider to a responsible driving agent in the age of intelligent mobility.
As intelligent driving technology booms, consumer expectations for the safety of high-level driver-assistance features grow in parallel. The willingness of automakers to assume explicit responsibility for their systems is likely to become a key factor in purchase decisions for smart vehicles.
