Denza is set to launch a new Z9 GT variant on Sept. 9, expanding its e³ EV lineup, Li Hui, general manager of Denza, said the move responds to customer demand for handling, performance and lightweight design in pure-electric e³ vehicles.
Based on Li’s comments, the new variant could use a smaller battery pack. Cutting battery capacity could reduce weight and cost while retaining the e³ platform, potentially giving Denza a lighter pure-electric model with the same chassis technology.
e³ is BYD’s intelligent vehicle dynamics platform developed for Denza. It integrates independent control of three electric motors, dual rear motors with independent steering, and Vehicle Motion Control (VMC).
The three motors independently control wheel torque to improve acceleration. The two rear motors provide a combined maximum steering angle of 20 degrees. Working with VMC, they coordinate wheel torque and steering in real time, giving vehicles longer than 5 meters a turning radius of just 4.62 meters.
The platform also supports features such as tank turns, intelligent crab walk, low-grip stability control and e³ parking. Rather than simply boosting power, e³ coordinates propulsion, steering and body movement to make large vehicles more agile and stable.
The new Denza Z9 GT currently starts at RMB 269.8K ($40.2K) and tops out at RMB 369.8K ($55.1K), with both pure-electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains available. Only one pure-electric variant currently uses e³. It comes with a 122 kWh battery and costs RMB 369.8K ($55.1K).
If Denza launches a pure-electric Z9 GT with a smaller battery while retaining e³, BYD could bring the technology into a lower price bracket.
For reference, the most affordable Denza model currently equipped with e³ starts at RMB 309.8K ($46.2K).
Denza delivered 16,001 vehicles in August, up 33.4% YoY but down 16.6% MoM. Monthly deliveries have now declined for two straight months. The brand delivered 101,477 vehicles in the first eight months of 2026.
The Z9 family accounted for 4,141 deliveries in August, or about 26% of Denza’s monthly total. Even as overall brand deliveries weakened on a monthly basis, the Z9 GT remains one of Denza’s key volume drivers.
