BYD passenger vehicle sales hit 433,384 units in August, up 16.7% from a year earlier. Sales for the first eight months reached 2.62 million units.
Overseas markets remained a major growth engine. BYD sold 188,746 passenger vehicles overseas in August, up 134.6% year over year, setting a new monthly record; the figure includes pickups.
Overseas sales reached 1.16 million units in the first eight months, making international markets a key pillar of BYD’s growth.
Battery-electric vehicle sales reached 256,230 units in August; plug-in hybrid sales totaled 177,154 units. BEV sales have widened their lead over PHEVs since overtaking them for the first time in May. For the first eight months, BYD sold 1,356,814 BEVs versus 1,265,017 PHEVs. The gap continues to widen.
Across BYD’s brand portfolio, the Dynasty series delivered 170,842 units in August, up 6% from July, up 13.9% year over year. Deliveries for the first eight months reached 1,045,805 units.
The Yuan family led the Dynasty series with 84,550 deliveries, up 128.2% year over year. Song family deliveries reached 47,350 units, up 74.5%. Song Ultra EV has delivered 72,100 units since its March launch. Qin family deliveries reached 21,826 units; Tang family deliveries totaled 12,340 units; Han family deliveries came to 3,656 units; Xia deliveries reached 1,120 units.
The Ocean series delivered 193,109 units in August, bringing its eight-month total to 1,167,552 units.
SeaLion series deliveries reached 48,559 units; Seal series deliveries totaled 47,464 units; Dolphin series deliveries came to 40,473 units; Seagull deliveries reached 36,106 units. Song PLUS delivered 18,267 units; Destroyer 05 delivered 2,190 units.
Seal 08 stood out with 10,170 units sold in August, adding fresh volume to the Ocean series in the mid- to high-end sedan market.
Another Ocean series flagship, SeaLion 08, will officially launch on the afternoon of Sept. 2. Positioned as a midsize-to-large SUV, the model could give BYD’s Ocean series another tool for moving further upmarket.
Among BYD’s sub-brands, Fangchengbao has emerged as a key force in BYD’s push into the mid- to high-end market.
Fangchengbao delivered 41,568 units in August. Ti7 accounted for 30,572 units. Since its September 2025 launch, cumulative sales of Ti7 have surpassed 230K units, making it the clear volume leader within the Fangchengbao lineup.
Bao5 delivered 4,250 units; Ti3 delivered 5,641 units; Bao8 delivered 1,105 units.
By the end of August, Fangchengbao’s cumulative sales had surpassed 538,992 units. Its average transaction price topped RMB 223K ($33,166), underscoring its role as BYD’s core vehicle for expanding into the mid- to high-end market.
Denza delivered 16,001 units in August, marking a second straight month of sequential decline. Eight-month deliveries reached 101,477 units. Denza D9 delivered 6,262 units; N8L deliveries reached 4,567 units; Z9 deliveries totaled 4,141 units; N9 deliveries came to 1,031 units.
Yangwang delivered 442 units in August. U8 accounted for 233 units; U7 delivered 205 units; U9 delivered four units.
BYD’s product strategy is also shifting toward the mid- to high-end market. The automaker plans to launch several new models this year, including Dahan, Denza N8, Fangchengbao Ti9.
