This week’s leaderboard reveals new momentum shifts — breakout performers and falling stars coexist.
On August 5, China’s latest New Energy Vehicle (NEV) weekly sales rankings (Week 31: July 28 – August 3, 2025) were released, showing signs of a reshuffled competitive landscape.
While weekly sales for the Top 10 brands remain relatively stable, the launch of new models from Li Auto and NIO has introduced fresh energy into the market and shifted the dynamics.
BYD continues to lead the market with 60,930 units sold this week. Following behind are Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA), Tesla, and Leapmotor, all of which surpassed 10,000 weekly sales, indicating a solidified top-tier group.
Among them, the weekly sales volume of HIMA reached 11,210 units, representing a 9.6% week-on-week decline. AITO contributed 9,612 units, accounting for 85.7% of the total sales; while LUXEED recorded 941 units, STELATO 513 units, and MAEXTRO 146 units.
It’s worth noting that the new LUXEED S7 will begin small-scale pre-orders on August 8. Whether the upgraded assisted driving hardware of the new model will bring additional traffic to the LUXEED brand remains to be seen.

Tesla maintained a relatively stable performance this week with 11,020 units sold, a 3.8% increase from the previous week. With the launch of the ONVO L90 and Li Auto i8, the 6-seat SUV segment has entered an intense head-to-head phase. To face the competition head-on, the Tesla Model Y L will be released in Q3 this year. This new vehicle is expected to become one of the biggest variables in future weekly sales rankings.

After a five-week gap, Leapmotor’s weekly sales once again surpassed the 10,000 mark, reaching 10,180 units — a 17% week-on-week increase. On July 24, the Leapmotor B01 entered the RMB 100,000 ($14,000) sedan segment with a starting price of RMB 89,800 ($12,572), bringing new momentum to the brand.

In stark contrast to the stable rankings of top-tier brands, the mid-tier segment is experiencing intense competition. This week’s sales rankings include both rising “dark horses” and brands falling behind.
The standout performer is the NIO Group, with a total of 7,930 units sold, representing a 59% increase compared to the previous week. NIO-branded vehicles accounted for 3,450 units, while the Firefly brand contributed 780 units.
The most notable performance came from NIO’s second brand — ONVO — which had an explosive breakout, selling 3,700 units in the week and contributing nearly half of NIO Group’s total. The ONVO L90 was officially launched on July 31, and data shows that in just three days, it sold 1,980 units — more than twice the weekly sales of NIO ES6 — making it the fastest-growing brand this week.
It is also evident that the success of the ONVO L90 has boosted attention to the ONVO L60 and the mid-to-high-end NIO models priced at ¥550,000–¥660,000 ($77,000–$92,400, commonly referred to as “NIO 5566”), effectively opening a new window of growth for the NIO Group.

In contrast, Li Auto recorded only 5,476 units sold this week, a 26% decrease compared to the previous week. At the end of July, the Li Auto i8 officially launched with a starting price of RMB 321,800 ($45,052). Launched around the same time as the ONVO L90, and with similar product positioning, the i8 has not gained the upper hand in terms of pricing or public opinion.
Just this afternoon, Li Auto officially announced it will streamline the i8 lineup into a single configuration version, priced at RMB 339,800 ($47,572), with deliveries starting on August 20.
As Li Auto’s share in the extended-range EV segment is being eroded and the highly anticipated i8 has yet to scale up in volume, the key question now is how long Li Auto will take to get through this transitional period.

Xiaomi maintained stable performance with 7,577 units sold this week. Facing backlogs of orders for the Xiaomi YU7 and SU7, the brand still needs time to overcome its delivery bottleneck.
XPeng recorded 9,071 units in weekly sales, marking its third consecutive week of growth. In early August, the all-new XPeng P7 will officially debut. With a bold and futuristic design, combined with XPeng’s latest intelligent features, whether it can further boost the brand’s sales will be reflected in the rankings over the coming weeks.

Heading into August, China’s NEV market is heating up. As models like the Li Auto i8, Xiaomi YU7, and ONVO L90 ramp up production, expect faster leaderboard reshuffling.
In the short term, HIMA (especially AITO) retain a strong lead. Long-term, Leapmotor’s cost-efficiency and XPeng’s global expansion suggest their rankings may climb further.
