ChinaEV Home was invited for an exclusive early shoot of the new ES8 ahead of the public reveal. While a confidentiality agreement keeps many specifics under wraps, what we can share already makes the car easy to look forward to.

First: “true luxury calls for true size.” At nearly 5.3 meters long and 1.8 meters tall, the ES8’s flagship presence is something you only fully grasp when you’re standing beside it.

Stepping inside, you’ll find more generous space, a more versatile seating layout, and richer functionality than the previous generation. The familiar trio of “sofa-like seats, a big screen, and a fridge” is all here.

Another highlight is NIO’s attention to light inside the cabin. From the wide forward view to the expansive glass area, the car creates a bright, airy atmosphere. Once it reaches showrooms on August 21, it’s worth experiencing this in person.

In design and engineering terms, this SUV is unmistakably “built for success.” Its exterior proportions feel more mature and composed, and the upgrades to the electric powertrain, intelligent features, and driving dynamics are just as compelling.

NIO CEO William Li has said the ES8 doesn’t need power-deployable running boards—and once you see the car, it makes sense: if the step-in height is lower than that of many classic MPVs, extra steps add little value.

More importantly, the third-generation ES8 runs on the new SkyOS operating system—the digital backbone of the vehicle. There are multiple “firsts” and “largest” elements on board; while details must remain confidential for now, it’s clear this isn’t just an exterior update but a rebuild at the architectural level.

In short, the third-generation ES8 turns size, presence, intelligence, and comfort all the way up—while the details reflect the calm assurance of a mature flagship.
