BMW’s All-New iX3 Production Model Unveiled, Global Debut Set for September 5

This vehicle not only represents the pinnacle of BMW’s electric technology but also signals the future direction of the brand’s electric vehicles.

On September 4, BMW Group officially announced that the first production model based on the all-new NEUE KLASSE platform—the all-new BMW iX3—will make its global debut on September 5 in Munich, Germany.

As the first production model under the Neue Klasse new generation platform, it achieves breakthroughs in design language, interior technology, powertrain, and range.

Teaser images reveal that the all-new BMW iX3 adopts the design style of BMW’s New Class X concept.

The front fascia retains the iconic kidney grille but features a closed-off design that integrates advanced driver-assistance sensors, illuminated trim along the edges, and flattened “Angel Eye” headlights. Unlike the wide-ratio grille used on sedan platforms, this SUV employs a vertically styled kidney grille.

Official details regarding interior and powertrain specifications have not yet been released. Based on available information, the new generation iX3 remains highly consistent with the earlier concept version.

Taking cues from the interior of the New Class X concept, the new model may feature the Panoramic iDrive Vision Head-Up Display. This innovative technology uses ultra-short-throw projection to display nearly 40 inches of 4K ultra-high-definition content on the windshield. The center console is equipped with a 14.9-inch curved touchscreen, tilted 17.5 degrees toward the driver, supporting 10-point touch and gesture control, while retaining some physical buttons below.

For powertrain, it utilizes the sixth-generation electric drive system. The top-tier iX3 50 xDrive variant features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup with an asynchronous motor at the front and an electrically excited synchronous motor at the rear. The battery uses large cylindrical cells co-developed with CATL and Eve Energy, improving energy density by 20% and increasing range by 30%. It achieves up to 800 km under WLTP standards and 900 km under CLTC conditions.

It is worth noting that for the domestic version, the new vehicle will integrate AI large model technology into its smart cabin, adapting to local digital ecosystems and high-frequency user scenarios. According to the plan, the long-wheelbase BMW iX3L, specially developed for the Chinese market, will officially enter production in Shenyang in 2026.

For reference, the current BMW iX3 in China has an official price range of 405,000 to 445,000 yuan, with a final out-the-door price of around 250,000 yuan. The new generation model, with its comprehensive technological upgrades, is expected to remain within this price range while offering more competitive product strength.

Just before the new model’s debut, the “BMW New Generation Family,” including the BMW New Class Concept, BMW New Class X Concept, BMW GINA Concept, and BMW 328 Hommage Concept, made a collective appearance on the streets of Guangzhou, China.

Among them, the BMW GINA attracted significant attention for its unique fabric skin and adaptive morphology design.

First unveiled in 2008, this concept car broke away from the century-old tradition of metal exteriors by using a special fibrous material as its body covering.

This material consists of a metal mesh reinforced with carbon fiber structures for elasticity, offering excellent durability along with resistance to water, moisture, heat, and expansion.

Additionally, the GINA concept can alter its shape based on driving conditions: when the vehicle reaches a certain speed, the rear spoiler automatically rises to increase downforce on the rear wheels, all while barely affecting the rear appearance.

Although the GINA concept never entered mass production, its innovative thinking has carried over into BMW’s recent New Class concept vehicle series.
