This is XPeng’s ninth global R&D site, following its established locations in Silicon Valley and San Diego, USA.
On September 10, XPeng Motors announced the official opening of its R&D center in Munich, Germany. This is XPeng’s first R&D center in Europe and its ninth global R&D site, following locations in Silicon Valley and San Diego, USA.
Guided by the core philosophy of “In Europe, With Europe,” the Munich R&D center will focus on the development of key technologies for intelligent electric vehicles, particularly in areas such as high-level autonomous driving, human-machine interaction, and energy management systems.

XPeng CEO He Xiaopeng added that the company’s goal is not only to enter the European market but to grow together with it. Additionally, XPeng plans to launch a mass-produced L4 autonomous driving vehicle in 2026 and will concurrently begin Robotaxi trial operations in China.
Globally, XPeng has already established R&D centers in Silicon Valley and San Diego, focused on artificial intelligence and autonomous driving technologies. The addition of the Munich center further enhances its cross-timezone, multi-regional collaborative R&D system.

Regarding its global expansion progress, XPeng began its international journey from Norway in 2020. Its previous target to operate in 60 countries and regions by the end of 2025 has been achieved ahead of schedule due to faster-than-expected expansion. Commenting on this, He Xiaopeng revealed that the company’s international expansion speed has exceeded expectations and stated that XPeng remains open to acquiring other electric vehicle companies. To circumvent EU tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicle imports, He Xiaopeng reiterated that the company will initiate local production plans in Europe.
Data shows that from January to July 2025, XPeng’s overseas deliveries reached 21,701 units, representing a strong year-on-year increase of 174%.
According to the plan, XPeng’s mass-market brand MONA will also be officially launched overseas in 2026. Furthermore, the new XPeng P7 and P7+, recently unveiled at the Munich Motor Show, are expected to enter the European market soon.
