WeRide, Grab Launch Autonomous Ride-Hailing Service in Singapore

This collaboration will further pave the way for WeRide to achieve large-scale commercial deployment in many more regions.

On September 22, WeRide announced a collaboration with the super-app Grab to launch Grab’s first consumer-facing autonomous ride-hailing service in Singapore—the Ai.R (Autonomously Intelligent Ride) project.

The Ai.R project marks Singapore’s first autonomous shuttle service within a residential area. Selected by the Land Transport Authority of Singapore, it will operate along two designated routes in Punggol to serve residents. These routes will connect residential areas with key facilities, including supermarkets, food centers, clinics, business parks, schools, and major transport hubs.

According to the plan, 11 autonomous vehicles will be deployed in the initial phase, including two models from WeRide: the Robotaxi GXR, which can seat 5 passengers, and the Robobus, which can accommodate 8 passengers.

The Ai.R vehicles are equipped with a multi-modal sensor suite, including advanced cameras and LiDAR, enabling 360-degree, blind-spot-free perception with a range of up to 200 meters.

WeRide has previously accumulated operational experience in Singapore, including Robobus services at Resorts World Sentosa and Robosweeper deployments in the city center, which have served tens of thousands of passengers. The Ai.R project marks the first deployment of WeRide’s GXR model in Singapore and Southeast Asia, representing a significant step in regional market expansion.

WeRide’s global strategy extends beyond Singapore.

In late March 2025, WeRide obtained a license for fully driverless public road testing and operations in France. In May, WeRide and Uber announced an expanded strategic partnership, planning to deploy Robotaxi services in 15 new cities across Europe, the Middle East, and other regions over the next five years. In September, WeRide’s Robobus received Belgium’s first federal L4 testing permit.

This collaboration will further pave the way for WeRide to achieve large-scale commercial deployment in many more regions.
