In Oct, CATL led the market with 36.14 GWh of battery installations, followed by BYD with 17.89 GWh, both constituting more than 60% of the total market share in China.
On November 12, the China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance released its monthly data for October 2025.
In October, China’s total production of power and other batteries reached 170.6 GWh, up 12.9% month-on-month (MoM) and 50.5% year-on-year (YoY). From January to October, cumulative output stood at 1,292.5 GWh, up 51.3% YoY.

Battery sales also showed strong momentum. Total domestic sales of power and other batteries were 166.0 GWh in October, growing 13.3% MoM and 50.8% YoY. Power batteries accounted for 124.3 GWh, or 74.9% of total sales, while other batteries made up 41.7 GWh.
For the first ten months, combined sales of power and other batteries reached 1,233.2 GWh, up 55.1% from a year earlier. Power batteries contributed 910.3 GWh, or 73.8% of the total, while other batteries totaled 322.8 GWh.

Exports continued their upward trend. In October, China exported 28.2 GWh of power and other batteries, up 5.5% MoM and 33.5% YoY, accounting for 17% of monthly sales. Power battery exports were 19.4 GWh, representing 68.8% of total exports, while other batteries contributed 8.8 GWh.
Between January and October, total battery exports reached 228.1 GWh, a YoY increase of 43.9%, accounting for 18.5% of total sales over the same period. Power battery exports amounted to 148.5 GWh (65.1% of exports), while other battery exports totaled 79.5 GWh.

Battery installations in vehicles also recorded solid growth. In October, power battery installations in China reached 84.1 GWh, rising 10.7% MoM and 42.1% YoY. Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries led the market, with installations of 67.5 GWh—over 80% of the total and up 43.7% YoY. Nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) batteries reached 16.5 GWh, accounting for 19.7% of total installations, up 35.8% from a year earlier.
From January to October, cumulative power battery installations reached 578.0 GWh, up 42.4% YoY. LFP batteries accounted for 470.2 GWh, or 81.3% of total installations, while NCM batteries totaled 107.7 GWh.

By vehicle type, battery installations in pure electric vehicles (BEVs) represented 79.8% of the October total, up 59.1% YoY. Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) accounted for 20.0%, up 37%, and fuel-cell vehicles (FCEVs) contributed 0.2%, up 202.9%.
Over the first ten months, BEVs represented 81.5% of installations, up 75% YoY; PHEVs accounted for 18.4%, up 38.4%; while FCEVs accounted for just 0.07%, down 3.2%.

A total of 33 companies supplied power batteries for China’s new energy vehicles (NEVs) in October, six fewer than a year ago. From January to October, 51 companies recorded installations, unchanged from the same period last year.
CATL remained the clear leader in October with 36.14 GWh of installed capacity, capturing 43% of the market. BYD followed with 17.89 GWh and a 21.29% share. Together, the two companies accounted for more than 60% of total installations. CALB, Gotion High-Tech, and EVE Energy ranked next, with 5.87 GWh, 5.58 GWh, and 3.26 GWh respectively.

From January to October, CATL’s total installations reached 246.82 GWh, representing 42.79% of the market, slightly lower than last year. BYD’s cumulative installations stood at 129.1 GWh, or 22.38%, also down from a year earlier.
Overall, China’s power battery market maintained strong double-digit growth in October, with LFP dominating due to its cost and safety advantages. CATL and BYD continued to solidify their leadership positions.
