CATL’s Fifth-Generation LFP Battery Has Begun Mass Production

Robin Zeng stated that CATL’s battery swap system is compatible with solid-state batteries.

On November 12, the 2025 World Power Battery Conference opened in Yibin, Sichuan.

Xin Guobin, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), shared the policy framework for the development of the power battery industry.

He stated that the MIIT will clarify development goals and key tasks based on the “15th Five-Year Plan” for new energy vehicle batteries, providing guidance for the industry. In terms of application scenarios, the MIIT will expand these scenarios, build an integrated new ecosystem, and promote the wider application of power batteries in related fields. Furthermore, battery swapping models and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) interaction have been explicitly endorsed as official priorities.

Xin Guobin also revealed plans to improve the interim measures for the comprehensive utilization of power batteries, research and establish a carbon management policy system for them, strengthen industry collaborative governance, and further regulate competition.

As a leading enterprise in the power battery field, Robin Zeng, CEO of CATL, shared the company’s technology roadmap and product development progress at the conference.

Regarding material and structural innovation, CATL’s currently mass-produced fourth-generation Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery leads the mainstream second and third-generation products in the industry in areas such as high specific energy, long cycle life, and high power.

Zeng pointed out that building on this foundation, CATL has recently begun mass production of its fifth-generation LFP battery, achieving new breakthroughs in energy density and cycle life.

In the more forward-looking field of solid-state batteries, CATL also holds a leading advantage in R&D progress. Zeng stated that CATL’s battery swap system is compatible with solid-state batteries.

Zeng previously indicated that the company’s all-solid-state battery R&D project is currently at level 4 (on a 1-9 scale), with the goal of reaching level 7-8 by 2027 to achieve small-scale production.

Another major focus of the conference was the collaborative development and global layout of the power battery industry. Vice Minister Xin Guobin noted that over 50 Chinese power battery companies have already achieved localized production and supply overseas.

CATL is also a representative of this trend. Official data shows that in the first three quarters of this year, CATL’s exports reached 120 GWh, accounting for nearly 60% of China’s total lithium battery exports.
