The recall is attributed to dimensional deviations in the passenger airbag’s filter screen, preventing normal deployment.
On November 14, the Chinese State Administration for Market Regulation announced that FAW-Volkswagen had filed a recall for 187 ID.7 VIZZION vehicles produced between December 13, 2023, and February 6, 2024.
Regarding the reason for this recall, the announcement stated:
Within the scope of this recall, some vehicles have a filter screen in the passenger airbag gas generator with dimensional deviations. If an accident triggers the passenger airbag, it may cause the filter screen to rupture, preventing the airbag from deploying properly and failing to provide the intended protection. This increases the risk of injury to occupants and poses a safety hazard.
Additionally, FAW-Volkswagen has provided a solution. The company will authorize its dealers to replace the passenger airbags free of charge with improved versions for vehicles within the recall scope, thereby eliminating the safety hazard.

Although the scale of this recall is relatively small, it comes at a critical time when FAW-Volkswagen is under pressure in its new energy strategy.
In fact, the market performance of the ID.7 VIZZION has remained weak since its launch. Data shows that in the three months following its debut in December 2024, the model’s average monthly sales were just over 300 units. By May 2025, monthly sales had dropped to just 5 units. This issue is not an isolated case—the ID.4 CROZZ, FAW-Volkswagen’s best-selling new energy model, recorded only 889 retail sales in January 2025, while the ID.6 CROZZ sold just 12 units during the same period.
Official data reveals that FAW-Volkswagen’s domestic retail sales in January 2025 reached 137,000 units, representing a year-on-year decrease of 15.4%, with new energy vehicles contributing very little to this figure.
