BYD Recalls 36,091 Qin PLUS DM-i Vehicles Over Battery Defect

The recall is due to inconsistencies in the power battery packs during production, which may restrict the battery’s power output.

On November 28, BYD filed a recall plan with China’s State Administration for Market Regulation, involving a total of 88,981 Qin PLUS DM-i vehicles.

The first batch, under recall code S2025M0189I, covers 52,890 Qin PLUS DM-i vehicles manufactured between September 26, 2021, and September 23, 2023.

The second batch, under recall code S2025M0190I and effective immediately, involves 36,091 Qin PLUS DM-i vehicles produced between January 7, 2021, and September 30, 2022.

Recall Announcement

The announcement indicates that for some vehicles within the scope of this recall, inconsistencies in the power battery pack during the production process may lead to restricted power output. In extreme cases, the vehicle may be unable to operate in pure electric mode, posing a potential safety risk.

For the affected vehicles, BYD Auto Industry Co., Ltd. and BYD Auto Co., Ltd. will authorize dealerships to perform free over-the-air (OTA) software upgrades for the vehicle’s detection system. If an abnormality in the power battery is detected, the instrument panel will illuminate a power battery fault indicator light, prompting the user to visit a dealership for a free replacement of the power battery pack.
