XPeng to Debut Bosch’s New-Gen Steer-by-Wire Tech in GX SUV

According to ChinaStarmarket, XPeng recently held a supply chain conference for the GX, officially disclosing the core component supplier lineup for its all-new flagship SUV, the XPeng GX.

Insiders revealed that over 90% of the GX’s core components come from world-class global suppliers. Additionally, the vehicle will be the first in the world to mass-produce Bosch’s new-generation steer-by-wire system.

Notably, the adoption of this technology coincides with a pivotal industry moment: the “Basic Requirements for Vehicle Steering Systems” (GB 17675-2025), a mandatory national standard, has just been released and will officially take effect on July 1 this year. The new standard marks the first time that clear safety boundaries have been established for steer-by-wire technology.

Unlike traditional mechanical steering systems, steer-by-wire eliminates the physical connection between the steering wheel and the wheels. Instead, it transmits control commands via electrical signals, with sensors, electronic control units, and actuation motors working in concert to execute steering actions.

Previously, constrained by cost and calibration complexity, this technology was primarily limited to high-end vehicles or concept cars.

In the domestic market, the NIO ET9 became the first mass-produced vehicle with steer-by-wire, priced in the 800,000 yuan tier. The IM LS9 Hyper, another flagship model equipped with the same technology, is scheduled for launch in April this year. Upon its debut, the XPeng GX will become the third domestic model to feature steer-by-wire.

With the GX, XPeng is bringing L4-capable steer-by-wire technology into the sub-500,000 yuan price segment for the first time, allowing this technology to officially enter the mainstream consumer market.

Furthermore, the GX is equipped with a rear-wheel steering system that works in synergy with the steer-by-wire setup, enhancing low-speed maneuverability and high-speed stability.

As XPeng’s flagship model aimed at elevating the brand, the GX measures 5,265/1,990/1,800 mm (L/W/H) with a 3,115 mm wheelbase. It will be built on the company’s new 3.0 physical AI vehicle architecture.

Based on previously leaked information, the new model is expected to offer both extended-range and pure-electric powertrain options, utilizing an 800V high-voltage platform with 5C ultra-fast charging technology.

The XPeng GX has currently entered the promotional video production phase. While detailed specifications have yet to be officially announced, its full-size six-seat layout and flagship positioning indicate that it will compete directly with the NIO ES8 and AITO M8 upon launch.

Currently, XPeng’s sales backbone is the MONA M03, accounting for approximately 46% of total sales. While this has brought cash flow and scale, the low profit margins and the risk of brand “mass-market dilution” remain persistent concerns.

XPeng needs a product that can sustain profitability and demonstrate its full-stack autonomous driving capabilities. The GX is clearly that answer.
