XPeng Acquires 90.1% Stake in Indonesian EV Maker for Local Production Push

Takeaways
  • XPeng acquires 90.1% of Indonesian EIDO, becoming controlling shareholder to localize EV production.
  • EIDO will focus on vehicle assembly while Erajaya companies retain XPeng sales and after-sales roles.
  • XPeng doubles its overseas ambition amid 96% export growth and a 2026 target of 90,000 vehicles.

On May 18, Erajaya Active Lifestyle (ERAL), a subsidiary of Indonesia’s Erajaya Group, announced that XPeng Motors has completed the acquisition of a majority stake in Indonesian EV company Era Industri (EIDO).

According to the announcement, XPeng now holds a 90.1% stake in EIDO following the transaction, becoming the controlling shareholder, while ERAL’s ownership has been diluted to 9.9%.

Previously, EIDO was almost entirely owned by ERAL, with only a 0.001% stake held by Erajaya Group Chairman Budiarto Halim.

On May 13, Budiarto Halim first transferred all of his personal shares to ERAL, after which ERAL sold 90.1% of EIDO to XPeng.

Notably, EIDO is not responsible for vehicle sales operations. Instead, the company mainly handles localized new energy vehicle production and assembly operations in Indonesia.

ERAL also emphasized in its statement that XPeng’s dealership operations, vehicle sales and after-sales services in Indonesia will continue to be handled by two other companies under the Erajaya system, with no changes to the existing business structure.

In fact, cooperation between XPeng and Erajaya began last year.

ERAL secured XPeng’s exclusive distribution rights in Indonesia

At the end of 2024, ERAL secured XPeng’s exclusive distribution rights in Indonesia, and XPeng officially entered the Indonesian market in February 2025.

In June of the same year, XPeng also launched its flagship all-electric MPV, the XPeng X9, in the local market, with a starting price of IDR 99 billion ($56,070).

Just last week, reports emerged that XPeng was also in talks with Volkswagen and other European automakers regarding potential factory acquisitions in Europe, as the company seeks suitable localized manufacturing bases overseas.

Behind these moves is XPeng’s rapidly accelerating global expansion strategy.

Data showed that XPeng’s overseas deliveries exceeded 45,000 vehicles in 2025, up 96% year-on-year. For 2026, the company has doubled its overseas sales target to 90,000 vehicles.
