- RoboSense won a FAW Toyota nomination to supply over 500,000 digital LiDAR units for a mass-market vehicle program.
- Combined FAW Toyota orders near 1 million units, accelerating Chinese LiDAR adoption by global automakers in China.
- Q1 2026 shipments surged to 330,300 units as robotics LiDAR exploded, making robotics the company’s largest segment.
Chinese LiDAR maker RoboSense has secured another production nomination from FAW Toyota for a new mass-market vehicle program. The project is expected to deploy more than 500K units of RoboSense’s digital LiDAR.

The award deepens cooperation between the two companies. By the end of 2025, RoboSense had already secured supply contracts for one of FAW Toyota’s best-selling models and a battery-electric vehicle program. Combined orders from the automaker have now approached 1 million units.
RoboSense said its digital LiDAR will support advanced driver-assistance functions across future FAW Toyota products. The latest deal signals rising adoption of Chinese smart-driving hardware by international automakers operating in China.
The partnership also highlights a broader industry shift. Chinese LiDAR suppliers are increasingly entering the procurement systems of global automotive groups, benefiting from stronger manufacturing scale, lower costs, and improving technology maturity.
FAW Toyota is not RoboSense’s only joint-venture customer.
In recent years, the company has won projects from joint-venture brands affiliated with Nissan, Volkswagen, Audi, and several leading European automakers. Its customer base has gradually expanded beyond domestic Chinese brands into mainstream global vehicle groups.

The trend reflects the growing competitiveness of China’s intelligent-driving supply chain. As mass-production capabilities improve, Chinese suppliers are gaining greater recognition from international manufacturers.
At the same time, LiDAR is moving from a premium differentiating feature toward a core perception component for advanced driving systems.
For FAW Toyota, expanding cooperation with RoboSense offers access to China’s rapidly evolving intelligent-driving ecosystem, strengthening the automaker’s smart-hardware competitiveness in the local market.
LiDAR adoption is also moving downmarket. FAW Toyota has already introduced LiDAR-equipped models priced around RMB 150K ($21,750), increasing demand for lower-cost sensor solutions.
RoboSense has reduced product costs through chip-level integration, automated manufacturing, and vertical supply-chain management. Those advantages have helped position the company as a preferred supplier.

According to RoboSense’s first-quarter 2026 earnings report, revenue rose about 40% year-on-year to RMB 460 million ($66.7 million). Gross profit increased roughly 29% to RMB 99.6 million ($14.4 million), while gross margin reached 21.7%.
LiDAR shipments climbed sharply during the quarter. Total deliveries reached 330,300 units, up 204.1% from a year earlier. ADAS LiDAR shipments totaled 144,800 units, rising 49.7%.
Robot-related LiDAR shipments surged to 185,500 units, up 1,458.8%. The robotics segment accounted for 56% of total shipments, compared with about 11% a year earlier.
For the first time, robotics overtook ADAS as RoboSense’s largest business segment, marking the company’s most significant structural shift during the quarter.
