Xiaomi’s upcoming SkyNomad SUV has made its first full public appearance, with the company releasing official images that reveal the model’s complete exterior design.

Xiaomi confirmed yesterday that SkyNomad will become its second vehicle lineup after the SU7 and YU7. Positioned as a large-space SUV, the model has entered its teaser campaign.

Following China’s typical product launch schedule, the vehicle is expected to appear in the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) filing catalog later this month, revealing additional specifications and technical details.

The new SUV adopts a boxier, more upright silhouette than Xiaomi’s existing models. A flat roofline stretches toward the rear, reinforcing its utility-focused design. The front fascia differs noticeably from the SU7 and YU7. It features cross-shaped headlamps, Xiaomi branding on the hood, and the dedicated SkyNomad logo. A roof-mounted LiDAR unit signals support for advanced driver-assistance functions.

The side profile uses clean body lines, paired with semi-hidden door handles and multi-spoke wheels. Previous reports suggest the SUV will support a factory roof-mounted tent, further strengthening its positioning for camping and long-distance outdoor travel.

Inside, leaked cabin images show a two-spoke multifunction steering wheel, a large floating center display, and a column-mounted gear selector. The front center console adopts a floating design with an open storage area underneath.

The second row features two individual captain’s chairs, confirming a six-seat layout. Based on mainstream rivals in the segment, the model is expected to offer zero-gravity seats, independent armrests, and a rear entertainment system.

Xiaomi founder Lei Jun also published a lengthy post explaining the SkyNomad positioning. Unlike the SU7 and YU7, both developed with driving dynamics as a priority, SkyNomad is described as an “intelligent, flexible large-space SUV.” The focus shifts toward adaptable interior space rather than outright performance.

Lei said consumer expectations have evolved beyond comfort and seating capacity. Buyers increasingly expect vehicles to serve as mobile spaces for resting, working, and leisure.

Lei Jun shares his take on the SkyNomad via social media.

Xiaomi defines the SkyNomad philosophy as “the freedom to live between heaven and earth.” According to the company, that freedom consists of three elements: eliminating range anxiety, enabling travel across both cities and outdoor destinations, and providing a highly customizable interior environment.

The SUV combines a range-extender powertrain with a full-size body. Xiaomi says the configuration addresses long-distance travel concerns while maximizing cabin versatility.

From a business perspective, the SkyNomad lineup is expected to help Xiaomi overcome its current sales bottleneck. The company delivered about 34.7K vehicles in June. The SU7 contributed roughly 20K units, while the YU7 accounted for about 14K.

Since the beginning of 2026, Xiaomi’s automotive business has relied on only two models. Sales growth has gradually slowed, leaving the company roughly 365K units short of its full-year target of 550K deliveries.

Against that backdrop, SkyNomad will enter the large family and outdoor SUV segment, opening a new growth market for Xiaomi. The model is also expected to generate additional showroom traffic. Increased consumer attention surrounding the launch could indirectly support sales of both the SU7 and YU7.
