- Dubai Police adopts BYD's Denza B8 plug-in hybrid as the backbone of its second-generation Ghiath smart patrol fleet.
- Al-Futtaim and Dubai Police sign MoU to co-develop AI-powered, hybrid law-enforcement platforms built around the Ghiath.
- Denza’s global push continues as BYD’s PHEV tech delivers 603 hp performance while enabling electric patrol mode.
Dubai Police officially unveiled the second-generation Ghiath smart patrol vehicle.
The new model is based on the Denza B8 plug-in hybrid SUV, a rebadged version of the Fangchengbao Bao 8 sold in the Chinese market.
Alongside the vehicle launch, Dubai Police signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Al-Futtaim, BYD’s exclusive distributor in the United Arab Emirates, to collaborate on the development, deployment and promotion of next-generation smart patrol vehicles.
The partnership extends beyond updating the police fleet. Under the agreement, the two sides will develop a new-generation law enforcement platform built around the second-generation Ghiath, integrating AI-powered security systems with hybrid propulsion technology.

“Ghiath,” which means “rescuer” in Arabic, is one of Dubai Police’s flagship smart policing initiatives.
Unlike conventional patrol vehicles, the project is designed to integrate artificial intelligence, intelligent command and control systems, and digital law enforcement capabilities directly into the vehicle, transforming it into a mobile policing platform rather than simply a means of transportation.
The first-generation Ghiath established the technological framework, while the second-generation model further enhances intelligent capabilities and expands the platform through BYD’s new energy vehicle technologies.
The Denza B8, which underpins the new Ghiath, features a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Dubai Police said it selected the PHEV system to balance high performance with environmental sustainability.
During routine patrols, the vehicle can operate primarily in electric mode to reduce energy consumption and emissions.

For high-speed pursuits or extended duty cycles, the gasoline engine provides sustained power support.
The Denza B8 is equipped with BYD’s DMO plug-in hybrid system, combining a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with dual electric motors. The system delivers a combined output of 603 horsepower.
Dubai Police has long been known for its fleet of high-end patrol vehicles, which has included models from Bugatti, Lamborghini, Ferrari and Aston Martin.
Unlike those supercars, which have largely served promotional and tourism roles, the second-generation Ghiath is designed primarily for operational law enforcement, with intelligent systems and new energy technologies at the center of the upgrade.
The agreement also represents another step in BYD’s expansion across the Middle East, where the automaker has been accelerating its overseas growth.
The Denza brand has also begun entering more international markets.

A day earlier, at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed, Denza officially launched the Denza Z in the UK, introducing three variants with a starting price of £142,900 ($194,000).
Sales data show Denza delivered 20,352 vehicles globally in June, up 28.9% year on year, surpassing 20,000 monthly deliveries for the first time.
