- Firefly won 2026 World Urban Car and multiple design and top safety honors across Euro NCAP and C‑IASI.
- June deliveries hit 6,946 (+76.7% YoY) and cumulative sales reached 68,586 as Firefly leads China’s premium small‑car segment.
Michael, head of marketing for the NIO Firefly brand, shared that firefly has officially been shortlisted for the final round of the 2026 German Golden Steering Wheel Award in the “small car” category.
This marks the second time a NIO sub‑brand has made it into the award’s selection, following the NIO ET7 in 2022, which became the first Chinese brand model to win the Golden Steering Wheel Award.
It is worth adding that the award is organized by Germany’s renowned automotive magazines Auto Bild and BILD am SONNTAG. Each year, the winning models are evaluated based on driving dynamics, connectivity, design, cost, and other dimensions. It is one of Europe’s most prestigious automotive accolades, often referred to as the “Oscar of the automotive industry.”

This is not the first time firefly has received international recognition.
In April 2026, under the collective choice of 98 international jurors from 33 countries, the firefly won the “World Urban Car” category at the 2026 World Car Awards. In addition, firefly also received the 2026 Trend (Automotive) Award.

In the fields of design and safety performance, firefly has also garnered significant accolades.
In July 2025, the model achieved a top safety rating from the China Insurance Automotive Safety Index (C‑IASI), making it the first compact car in the index’s history to receive a “G” (Good) rating or above in all four assessment categories, and the highest score among over 170 models evaluated, regardless of price or vehicle type. In September of the same year, firefly further earned dual five‑star ratings in both Euro NCAP and C‑NCAP crash tests.
Subsequently, in December, the model won the “China Annual Best Design” award at the 13th Xuanyuan Annual Ceremony.

Behind these accolades, firefly has also received positive feedback from the user market.
Official data shows that in June 2026, firefly delivered 6,946 new vehicles, representing a year‑over‑year increase of 76.7% and a month‑over‑month increase of 22.7%. By the end of June, cumulative deliveries of Firefly had reached 68,586 units.
In the premium small‑car segment, firefly has ranked first in market share in China’s high‑end small car market for 13 consecutive months, with its share exceeding 70% for six of those months.

In overseas markets, firefly has so far entered 11 countries and regions, including right‑hand‑drive markets such as Singapore and Thailand.
As the vanguard of NIO Group’s global expansion matrix, NIO CEO William Li has previously emphasized that in 2026, NIO will use firefly as the pioneering brand to expand overseas business through a national master distributor model, with plans to reach a total of 40 countries and regions.
When asked about the timeline for accelerating overseas market expansion, Li recently stated in an interview that the company will adhere to a strategic principle of focusing on the Chinese market while steadily entering global markets.
At the same time, drawing on lessons learned from the company’s earlier entry into the Norwegian market, Li outlined two core focuses for the brand’s overseas push: on the one hand, products must compete not only with local overseas brands but also with Chinese peers in terms of product strength; on the other hand, the company needs to find solutions that adapt to long‑term international political dynamics in order to navigate policy changes in local markets.
