Chinese autonomous driving firm Momenta announced on July 27 that it has officially entered the unmanned cargo Robovan sector.
According to the company, Momenta’s Robovan operations have already been deployed in Xiangcheng District, Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, where the vehicles have been operating continuously for several months.
The service currently focuses on urban logistics scenarios including express delivery and nighttime delivery.
The move comes shortly after Momenta’s listing on the HKEX this month and represents an expansion of its world model technology from passenger vehicles into autonomous delivery applications.
Momenta’s Robovan system is built on the company’s proprietary R7 world model, which differs from traditional autonomous driving solutions that rely heavily on high-definition maps.
Momenta is bringing its previously validated “map-free” autonomous driving approach from passenger vehicle production programs into the Robovan sector.
This aims to reduce the costs associated with map collection and maintenance while improving deployment efficiency across different cities and regions.
The company said its autonomous driving systems have accumulated more than 12 billion kilometers of real-world driving mileage and collected more than 100 million segments of high-value data.
The majority of these datasets come from passenger vehicle mass-production projects and have become a key foundation for expanding autonomous driving technology into other scenarios, including logistics and Robotaxi services.
Autonomous delivery is becoming an important commercialization direction for autonomous driving companies.
According to a report released by the Smart Logistics Branch of the China Federation of Logistics Purchasing, the number of autonomous delivery vehicles in China exceeded 50,000 units by the first quarter of 2026.
The report forecasts that annual production and sales of autonomous delivery vehicles in China could reach 860,000 units by 2030, with the cumulative fleet exceeding 2 million units.
Momenta’s entry into the Robovan market is also aligned with its broader “Physical AI” strategy in recent years.
The company aims to build a foundational Physical AI platform supporting large-scale deployment across passenger vehicles, Robovan, Robotruck and Robotaxi applications, with potential expansion into robotics and other fields.
In passenger vehicles, Momenta has already achieved relatively large-scale commercialization.
Its intelligent driving systems have been deployed in more than 1 million vehicles, covering over 100 production models, while securing designated programs for more than 210 vehicle models.
At the 2026 WAIC held recently, Momenta, SAIC Motor and EnjoyGo jointly announced a mass-production Robotaxi program, set to make its debut in 2027.
