GWM’s ORA Launches 5 Sport and GT with Three Powertrain Options

GWM’s Ora brand launched the Ora 5 Sport and Ora 5 GT on Aug. 28; both ride on the Guiyuan platform.

Ora 5 Sport ICE trims cost RMB 71.8K-95.8K ($10.7K-$14.3K); hybrids at RMB 91.8K-105.8K ($13.7K-$15.7K); EVs at RMB 111.8K-125.8K ($16.6K-$18.7K).

Ora 5 GT ICE trims cost RMB 89.8K-103.8K ($13.4K-$15.4K); hybrids at RMB 99.8K-113.8K ($14.9K-$16.9K); EVs at RMB 119.8K-133.8K ($17.8K-$19.9K).

GWM launched Ora in 2018; early target was female consumers. Black Cat; White Cat; Good Cat; Ballet Cat; all pure electric; retro rounded design built brand image.

Good Cat became one of the most recognizable models; Lightning Cat pushed into fastback coupe market.

However, after Lightning Cat launched in late 2022; years passed without new platform models. Updates relied on facelifts and trim upgrades. Meanwhile, Black Cat; White Cat exited; lineup shrank sharply.

Ora 5 becomes the key product in this brand transition.

Ora 5 ditches earlier retro design for sporty elements; targets wider consumer base. Sport gets two-tone body; 18-inch wheels; contrast calipers and light rings. Interior comes in Starry Night and Dawn Break themes; 15.6-inch 2.5K screen; Coffee OS 3

GT gets lower stance; standard aero kit; 19-inch wheels; sport seats. EV version adds Super Sport mode; simulated sound; all versions support launch control.

Powertrains: EV uses 150kW motor; 260Nm; 58.3kWh second-gen short-blade battery; 550km CLTC range. Hybrid uses Hi2 system; 166kW; 476Nm. ICE pairs 1.5T with 7-speed wet DCT. Coffee Pilot 3 optional; LiDAR on high-spec trims.

The biggest change: Ora shifts from pure EV to ICE, Hybrid, EV parallel tracks; altering previous product strategy.

Sales show adjustment phase. July domestic sales hit 4,585; Ora 5 SUV ICE sold 2,907; EV sold 1,162; Good Cat sold 516. Jan-Jul sales hit 19.8K; scale modest; due to restructuring and model phaseouts.
