Geely Adopts Rotating Leadership Model; Finance Veteran Dai Qing Becomes Inaugural President

According to information disclosed by the China Automotive Research Institute, a source close to Geely Holding Group revealed that Geely plans to implement a rotating presidency system at the group level, with the first rotating president likely to be someone with a financial background.

Official information from Geely Holding Group shows that the rotating presidency system was officially put into effect in March this year, with Dai Qing, the former Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Geely Holding Group, taking on the role of the first rotating president.

Dai Qing has an impressive resume. He joined Geely Holding Group in 2000 and has worked in several important positions in finance and business management. Since March 2025, he has officially taken office as the rotating president of Geely Holding Group, embarking on a new journey.

This decision is not only an important innovation in the governance model of Geely Holding Group but also a positive response to the implementation of the “Taizhou Declaration.”

In September 2024, the “Taizhou Declaration” was released, which clearly put forward five core measures, marking the entry into a new stage of strategic transformation. The group has been carrying out integration in multiple fields, including brands, supply chains, and sales channels.

Just yesterday, Geely Automobile also announced plans to acquire all the issued shares of Zeekr. If the transaction is completed, Zeekr will be fully merged with Geely Automobile, further strengthening Geely’s influence in the new energy vehicle market.

As a manager with a financial background, Dai Qing’s appointment as the rotating president is undoubtedly an important strategic move for Geely. It is often said that “empowerment and checks and balances go hand in hand,” but it remains to be seen whether the new system can enable Geely to surge ahead on the fiercely competitive “involution” track.
