Today, according to images captured at Germany’s Nürburgring race track shared by automotive media Drive, the Tesla Model S is poised for its third major styling update since 2016 and 2021. This model remains one of the oldest new cars currently sold in Tesla’s home market.

Exterior-wise, the facelift retains most design elements including lights and expensive sheet metal components. Notably, it features sharper front bumper air intakes resembling those on the smaller Model 3 Performance. The rear bumper has been revised to align with the new Model 3 Performance’s styling. The updated model adopts new 21-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, similar to those found beneath the aero covers of entry-level Model 3 sedans.
The media outlet speculates that while the 2026 refresh may involve minor exterior tweaks, it could bring mechanical upgrades surpassing the current Model S Plaid’s 761kW tri-motor layout and 2.1-second claimed 0-100km/h acceleration time.
The facelift is expected to debut in 2026 as a “Plaid+” variant. Earlier this year, Tesla engineering boss Lars Moravy confirmed on the Ride the Lightning podcast: “Just give it a minute. We’ll get there. The upgrade a few years ago was bigger than most people thought in terms of architecture and structure.” Notably, a “Plaid+” variant was originally planned as part of the 2021 refresh, claiming 820kW power and an 840km EPA-estimated range (surpassing the standard Plaid’s then 628km rating, now reduced to 560km). However, Elon Musk later stated “The regular Plaid is just too good,” leading to the cancellation of this enhanced version.
