Survey data shows that the overall quality problem rate in China’s new energy vehicle industry reached 226 PP100 (problems per 100 vehicles), an increase of 16 PP100 compared to 2024. Despite the continuous rise in issues, the growth rate has significantly slowed—while the 2024 figure surged by 37 PP100 year-over-year, the 2025 increase narrowed to less than half of that.
Specifically, battery electric vehicles (BEVs) reported fewer problems (220 PP100) than plug-in hybrids (234 PP100). Battery/charging-related issues were the only category to show a decline in complaints (-3.2 PP100), indicating a gradual easing of range anxiety among consumers.
The report highlights that the acceleration of intelligent features has exposed fundamental weaknesses as a core concern. Among these, infotainment systems emerged as the most significant pain point—consistently ranked as the top complaint for multiple years—reaching 31 PP100 in 2025. Key issues included inaccurate voice recognition, unresponsive touch controls, and navigation errors.
Another challenge appeared in niche vehicle segments. First, MPV models saw a 4.4% sales increase in tier-one cities due to rising family travel demand, but their PP100 surged by 20.8% year-over-year. Quality complaints mainly focused on rattling noises from second/third-row seats and poorly fitted seatbelts. Second, off-road vehicles reported five rattling/noise-related issues among the top 20 complaints.
This report delivers a clear message: as range anxiety fades, experience-related concerns are becoming the new battleground.
