Recently, South Korean market research firm SNE Research released the “Global EV Battery Usage Report for January-April 2025”.
The data shows that global electric vehicle (EV) battery usage reached 308.5 gigawatt-hours (GWh) from January to April 2025, representing a 40.2% increase year-on-year.
The following is the list of the top 10 global power battery manufacturers by installed capacity for January to April 2025:
As can be seen from the list, Chinese power battery manufacturers account for 6 out of the top 10 spots. They are CATL (117.6 GWh), BYD (53.4 GWh), CALB (11.9 GWh), Gotion High-tech (10.6 GWh), EVE Energy (8.3 GWh), and SVOLT (8.1 GWh).

CATL maintained its position as the global leader in battery usage with a 42.4% year-on-year increase. BYD secured second place with a growth rate of 60.8% (reaching 53.4 GWh). The report stated that BYD’s EV sales are expected to reach approximately 6 million units in 2025 and maintain their growth momentum. This is anticipated to further expand BYD’s global market share in power battery installations.
LG Energy Solution ranked third with a 16.3% year-on-year increase (to 31.4 GWh). Compared to the top two players, LG Energy Solution’s growth rate was relatively modest, which may be linked to the market performance of its automotive customers. Currently, LG Energy Solution’s main customers are Tesla, followed by Volkswagen, Chevrolet, and Kia. Data shows that Tesla’s usage of LG Energy Solution batteries declined by 14.3%.
