This morning, Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi Auto, announced that the production-spec Xiaomi SU7 Ultra returned to the Nürburgring Nordschleife and set a new lap record for production electric vehicles (EVs) at 7 minutes 04.957 seconds. This makes it the fastest production EV in the history of the Nürburgring.
This result broke the nearly two-year record (7:07.55) held by the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT (with Weissach Package).
The Nürburgring, the ultimate proving ground for automotive technology and capability, has seen continuous breakthroughs in production EV lap times. A brief history:
- Aug 2019: Porsche Taycan Turbo – 7:42.00
- Sep 2021: Tesla Model S Plaid – 7:35.579
- Apr 2022: Porsche Taycan Turbo S – 7:33.35
- Sep 2023: Porsche Taycan Turbo GT (w/ Weissach Package) – 7:07.55
- Apr 2025: Xiaomi SU7 Ultra (w/ Track Package) – 7:04.957
Notably, this wasn’t the SU7 Ultra’s first Nürburgring attempt. Back in October last year, a prototype version became the track’s fastest four-door car with a lap time of 6:46.874.
The production-spec SU7 Ultra now fully implements track-validated technologies. For example, it retains the same three-electric powertrain as the prototype – a tri-motor AWD system comprising two V8s and one V6s motor, delivering a combined 1,548 PS. It accelerates 0-100 km/h in just 1.98 seconds (excluding rollout) with a top speed exceeding 350 km/h.
Lei Jun stated that Xiaomi will establish a long-term presence at the Nürburgring to “progress alongside the world’s top automakers on this pinnacle arena of global automotive engineering.”
