On June 24th, Firefly officially launched its BaaS (Battery as a Service) battery lease purchase scheme.
Using the BaaS battery lease service reduces the car price by ¥40,000(USD 5,573). The Zizai (自在版) trim now starts at ¥79,800(USD 11,118), and the Faguang (发光版) trim starts at ¥85,800.(USD 11,954) The battery lease service fee is ¥399(~USD 56) per month.

Concurrently, the official June BaaS limited-time offer provides first owners with a “Pay for 4 months, get 5 months” benefit on the BaaS battery lease service fee for the first three years.
It’s worth noting that Firefly’s release of the BaaS scheme this month came earlier than widely expected.
Back in April, NIO officially stated that the Firefly BaaS scheme would be formally launched in early August. Regarding the reasoning behind choosing that timing, Firefly CEO Daniel explained:
“Firstly, it was based on go-to-market strategy; the ¥119,800(USD 16,691) pricing itself was already very competitive. Secondly, the price difference before and after applying the BaaS scheme for Firefly is relatively small compared to other larger models, so the impact might not be as significant. Finally, considering that user demand is expected to see its first small peak starting from April through May, June, and July, launching the BaaS scheme in August will help drive a second small peak.”

Looking back at Firefly’s sales data in the Chinese market, during its first full delivery month in May, Firefly delivered 3,680 new vehicles. This figure exceeded the combined average monthly sales of the BMW Electric MINI and Smart.
With the launch of the BaaS scheme, Firefly’s entry price point has been further lowered to the ¥80,000 range. Looking across the Chinese market’s pure electric competitors in this ¥80,000 price bracket, such as the Geely Xingyuan(start at ¥65,800), BYD Seagull (start at ¥63,800), and Wuling Bingo(start at ¥51,800), Firefly possesses relatively strong competitiveness.
This time, will Firefly successfully usher in a second wave of user growth with BaaS?
