BYD’s “Zhengzhou” Car Carrier Ship to Be Delivered Next Month

BYD’s seventh ro-ro (roll-on/roll-off) ship, the “Zhengzhou,” has completed its sea trial.

BYD’s seventh ro-ro vessel, the “Zhengzhou,” completed its sea trial on June 23 and is expected to be delivered for use next month. The “Zhengzhou” shares the same technical specifications as the previously launched “Hefei,” and it is the seventh professional automobile ro-ro ship in BYD’s “Overseas Fleet.” Meanwhile, the “Hefei” is currently passing through the Suez Canal on its way to Europe.

The “Zhengzhou” is manufactured by Guangzhou Shipbuilding International. It measures 199.9 meters in length and 38 meters in width, with a cargo capacity of 7,000 vehicles. The ship uses LNG dual-fuel propulsion and is equipped with a permanent magnet shaft generator and energy-saving devices. As of June 2025, BYD has already put six ships into operation and plans to build an “Overseas Fleet” consisting of eight ro-ro ships by 2026, with a total capacity exceeding one million vehicles.

BYD’s overseas business is currently undergoing rapid growth, becoming a significant driver of the company’s overall sales. In 2024, the overseas sales reached 417,204 units, representing a 71.9% year-on-year growth. By April 2025, the cumulative overseas sales for the year had already reached 285,170 units.
