Flash: June Wholesale Sales of New Energy Passenger Vehicles in China Reach 1.26 Million Units, Up 38% YoY

For the first half of 2025 (January to June), cumulative wholesale volume is projected to be 6.47 million units, up 38% YoY.

On July 2, the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) released its June 2025 preliminary wholesale sales forecast for new energy passenger vehicles.

According to CPCA’s preliminary monthly estimate, China’s wholesale volume of new energy passenger vehicles in June is projected to reach 1.26 million units, marking a 29% increase YoY and a 3% increase month-over-month (MoM). From January to June 2025, the cumulative wholesale sales reached approximately 6.47 million units, representing a 38% increase compared to the same period last year.

June 2025 included 20 working days, one more than June 2024. Benefiting from an improving international trade environment and national-level consumption stimulus policies, many provinces and municipalities have introduced local incentives to promote automobile purchases. Additionally, the temporary suspension of subsidies in some cities created urgency among consumers, driving strong demand.

This favorable environment helped multiple brands—Leapmotor, Dongfeng Nissan, and GAC Toyota among them—achieve record-high monthly NEV wholesale volumes.

According to CPCA data, in May 2025, the combined wholesale volume of manufacturers that sold over 10,000 NEVs in a single month accounted for about 90% of the total national NEV passenger car wholesale volume. Based on the early July figures, the same group of manufacturers recorded approximately 1.15 million units of NEV wholesale volume in June.

With most automakers having already locked in their June performance, CPCA estimates the total wholesale volume of NEV passenger cars for June 2025 to be 1.26 million units, by extrapolating based on the previous month’s brand share structure.
