As early as February 2025, the label “CHAMPION EDITION” first appeared on the rear of NIO models listed in the 392nd batch of new vehicle announcements by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), sparking public speculation about upcoming special-edition variants.

According to regulatory filings, the Champion Edition series includes four models: EC6, ES6, ET5, and ET5 Touring (ET5T). These vehicles feature a new front fascia design: the previously rounded headlamp clusters have been replaced by sharper trapezoidal shapes, and the front bumpers now exhibit a crisp, chiseled look. Customization is a key highlight, with options like fluorescent green brake calipers, multiple rim styles, and most notably, a metal “CHAMPION EDITION” badge at the rear that marks the car’s exclusivity.

Additional details about the new 5566 Champion Edition configurations have been leaked by Weibo auto blogger @电车尼克. According to the leak:

  • All Champion Edition models come in “Moonlight Silver” exterior color.
  • The ET5/ET5T models are equipped with new anti-roll bars, a custom EP MODE tuning profile, and carbon fiber side mirrors.
  • The EC6 version features updated interior and exterior touches, such as suede finishes, green seatbelts, and special badging.

It is worth noting that the Champion Edition series may have been launched in connection with Formula E’s 10th Anniversary. NIO’s motorsport pedigree dates back to June 2015, when Nelson Piquet Jr. of NIO’s TCR won the first-ever Formula E Driver’s World Championship, marking the first time a Chinese team clinched a title in a top-tier global racing series.

Now, ten years later, NIO has embossed that racing heritage onto its production models with the “CHAMPION EDITION” emblem—turning its motorsport legacy into a tangible product narrative.

Beyond commemorative value, some users speculate that this new release may also be accompanied by pricing adjustments, suggesting that NIO is leveraging this campaign for both emotional resonance and strategic market positioning.
