CATL’s Brunp Leads Development of China’s New National Battery Recycling Standards

As of now, the company has developed 445 standards for the industry, including 126 national standards.

On October 17, the State Administration for Market Regulation held a “Press Conference on the Standardization of Power Battery Recycling,” announcing that China has released 22 national standards for power battery recycling.

Public information indicates that Brunp Recycling, a subsidiary of CATL, has led or participated in the formulation of over 80% of the national standards for lithium battery recycling in China. As of now, the company has developed 445 standards for the industry, including 126 national standards.

With the impending wave of battery retirements, recycling has emerged as the next critical phase for the NEV industry.

At the press conference, Xie Zaichun, Deputy Director of the Fujian Provincial Market Supervision Administration, stated that Brunp Recycling’s self-developed DRT (Directional Recycling Technology), through processes such as intelligent disassembly, hydrometallurgy, and material repair, has achieved ultra-high recovery rates of 99.6% for nickel, cobalt, and manganese, and 96.5% for lithium.

In 2024, Brunp Recycling processed over 120,000 tons of waste batteries and produced 17,100 tons of recycled lithium salt, effectively alleviating the domestic dependency on imported nickel, cobalt, and lithium resources.

Since 2005, Brunp Recycling first proposed the philosophy that “Recycling is inherently disordered; standards must come first,” and has since focused on the standardization of battery recycling. Currently, Brunp Recycling has established a full-lifecycle ecological closed loop of “Battery Production – Use – Recycling – Recycled Materials – Remanufacturing.”

It is worth noting that Brunp not only supports 18 national standardization technical committees in conducting research on battery recycling standards but has also openly shared its pioneering directional recycling technology with the industry, contributing to the formation of national standards.
