Stellantis to Sell Leapmotor B10 as Opel in Europe

The Leapmotor B10 was officially launched in the European market in September this year, with a starting price of €29,900.

According to Autonews, the Stellantis Group is considering incorporating the China-made Leapmotor B10 into its European product lineup and selling it under the Opel brand.

The new vehicle could launch in Europe under the Opel brand as early as next year. This would mark the first time Stellantis has introduced a “rebadged” model from a Chinese partner into the European market.

This cooperation stems from the foundation already laid by Leapmotor and Stellantis.

In 2023, Stellantis invested €1.5 billion to acquire a 20% stake in Leapmotor. Subsequently, the two parties established the joint venture “Leapmotor International” in 2024, with Stellantis holding a 51% stake and opening its global sales channels.

Opel, a longstanding German automaker under Stellantis, will pave the way for Leapmotor models to enter the European market rapidly through this cooperation model.

For the Opel brand, this rebadging plan is a pragmatic move to address electrification challenges. In August this year, Opel announced the cancellation of its original target for a full transition to electric vehicles by 2028. Parent company Stellantis itself is facing financial pressure and lacks the resources to support large-scale electrification R&D investments.

An insider stated that this solution provides Opel with a “good opportunity” to launch a feature-rich and affordable electric vehicle in the compact SUV segment.

Opel’s specific modification plan likely involves incorporating brand elements into the B10 base, such as the lightning logo, Vizor grille, and Compass lighting units, with minimal expected changes to the rest of the body.

The Leapmotor B10 measures 4515x1885x1655mm with a wheelbase of 2735mm. It officially launched in the European market in September this year, with a starting price of €29,900, targeting competitors like the Volkswagen ID.4 and Skoda Enyaq.

The Leapmotor B10 currently enters the European market as an imported vehicle from China.

It is reported that Stellantis is considering starting production at its Zaragoza plant in Spain from 2026. This plant currently produces the Opel Corsa hatchback and Mokka SUV. With the EU currently imposing an additional 20.8% tariff on China-made cars, localized production would further reduce manufacturing costs for the new vehicle.
