BYD Debuts First K-Car Racco in Japan, Sales Start in Summer 2026

Racco is expected to start at 2.6 million yen ($17,160), competing with Japanese K-EVs such as the Honda N-Box, Suzuki Spacia, and Nissan Sakura.

On October 29, at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, BYD officially unveiled its first pure electric K-Car model, the Racco.

The new model will go on sale in Japan in the summer of 2026 and will primarily target the Japanese domestic market.

Racco inherits the box-shaped silhouette typical of Japan’s mainstream K-Cars, measuring 3,395 mm in length, 1,475 mm in width, and 1,800 mm in height. It features a four-door layout with sliding rear doors and accommodates up to four passengers.

The exterior design is simple and compact, adopting a four-wheel-at-corner configuration to maximize cabin space.

The front fascia features a closed grille paired with slim rectangular headlights, while the sides incorporate a floating roofline and triangular A-pillar windows to enhance visibility and accessibility.

Inside, the Racco is equipped with a three-spoke steering wheel that includes a heating function. The dashboard features both an instrument display and a floating central touchscreen.

The front seats appear to adopt a bench-style design, emphasizing a sense of openness and practical use of space in a small vehicle.

Powering the vehicle is a fully electric drivetrain, with an estimated 20 kWh battery pack that delivers about 180 km of range under WLTC conditions. The Racco also supports DC fast charging of up to 100 kW.

The Racco’s starting price is expected to be 2.6 million yen ($17,160), positioning it against leading Japanese K-EVs such as the Honda N-Box, Suzuki Spacia, and Nissan Sakura.

BYD entered Japan’s passenger car market in 2023, selling models including the Dolphin, Atto 3, Seal, and Sealion 7 models. The company plans to expand its dealership network in Japan to 100 locations by the end of 2025.
