The two parties plan to increase testing frequency on Punggol shuttle routes to four times the current level by the end of 2025.
On November 13, WeRide and Southeast Asian super app Grab announced that they have received official approval from Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) to conduct Autonomously Intelligent Ride (Ai.R) autonomous vehicle fleet testing in the Punggol area.
Public information shows that WeRide and Grab initiated Singapore’s first Robotaxi GXR test in Punggol in mid-October 2025. With this approval, the two parties will accelerate their local autonomous driving testing plan, aiming to increase the number of tests on the Punggol shuttle routes to four times the current level by the end of 2025.
It is reported that the Ai.R project, jointly operated by WeRide and Grab, is an autonomous driving mobility service open to the public. The Ai.R fleet consists of 11 WeRide autonomous vehicles, including 10 Robotaxi GXR models that can seat 5 passengers each and 1 Robobus that can seat 8 passengers.
The Ai.R autonomous mobility service covers two dedicated shuttle routes in the Punggol area and is set to welcome its first public passengers in early 2026. Punggol will thereby become the first residential district in Singapore to launch an autonomous shuttle service.

Both the WeRide Robotaxi GXR and Robobus are equipped with a perception system comprising LiDAR and cameras, enabling 360° panoramic sensing with a maximum detection range of 200 meters.
During the autonomous vehicle testing and initial public operation phase, all vehicles will be equipped with trained safety operators to monitor the vehicle’s operational status in real-time.
During road testing, the autonomous vehicles analyze real-time road condition data to conduct localized training for their AI driving models. This includes adapting to road infrastructure, traffic flow, and subtle behavioral differences of local drivers and pedestrians. The vehicles are also trained for various weather conditions, such as sudden heavy rain or intense sunlight, ensuring reliable operation across all times and weather conditions.
The autonomous vehicles continuously optimize their driving performance, including: enhancing precise driving capabilities, mastering complex urban scenarios, and achieving smooth shuttle stops.
