From January to October 2025, China sold 27.65 million vehicles, up 12% YoY, representing 34.9% of global auto sales.
On December 1, Cui Dongshu, Secretary-General of the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), released the latest data showing that global automobile sales reached 8.64 million units in October 2025, up 4% year on year and 1% month on month.
Total global sales from January to October stood at 79.25 million units, representing a 6% year-on-year increase.

China remained the major growth engine in the global auto market. Over the first ten months, China’s auto sales reached 27.65 million units, rising 12% year on year and accounting for 34.9% of the world total — far outpacing the United States (3%), India (3%) and Japan (4%) in incremental contribution.
In October alone, China’s share of the global market climbed to 38%, up 1 percentage point from a year earlier and marking the highest point so far this year.
Among the world’s top ten automotive groups in 2025, Chinese automakers continued to gain share.
BYD ranked sixth globally, Geely eighth and Chery tenth, with market shares improving to 5.3%, 4.6% and 3.7%, respectively.

Overall, Asian automakers posted stronger performance. Toyota Group remained the global leader with an 11.1% share, supported by steady demand in Europe and North America.
By contrast, several traditional international automakers saw notable declines in market share: Volkswagen Group, Stellantis, Renault-Nissan and Tesla fell to 8.9%, 5.6%, 5.4% and 1.9%, respectively.

Globally, the auto market has steadily recovered after bottoming out in 2020. Worldwide sales reached 89.01 million units in 2023, up 11% year on year, and climbed to 91.77 million units in 2024, surpassing pre-pandemic levels.
This year, stronger-than-expected demand in China has continued to support global recovery momentum.
Based on October data, China’s growth has been driven by both domestic demand recovery and rising competitiveness in exports and homegrown brands.
As the global market structure adjusts more rapidly, Chinese automakers are strengthening their influence in the international auto landscape.
