BYD Celebrates 15 Millionth Electric Vehicle, Landmark Unit is a Denza N8L

The climb from 10 million to the recent 15 million units was achieved in approximately 1.5 years.

BYD’s 15 millionth new energy vehicle officially rolled off the production line today, making it the first automaker globally to reach this milestone. The vehicle marking this occasion is a Denza N8L, which also happens to be the 15,000th unit of this model produced.

Looking back at the development journey of BYD’s new energy vehicles, the data reveals a pattern of exponential growth.

From launching its first new energy vehicle, the F3DM, in 2008 to producing its 1 millionth unit in May 2021, BYD took 13 years.

However, the growth pace accelerated significantly thereafter: it took only one and a half years to go from 1 million to 3 million units; the jump from 3 million to 5 million units shortened to just 9 months; and reaching 10 million units from 5 million took 15 months. The climb from 10 million to the recent 15 million units was achieved in approximately 1.5 years.

This exponential growth demonstrates the dual explosion of BYD’s production capacity and market demand.

BYD has set its full-year sales target for 2025 at 4.6 million vehicles, representing an increase of nearly 30% compared to the 4.2721 million units sold in 2024. As of November 2025, BYD’s cumulative sales have reached 4.18 million units, already achieving 91% of its annual target.

Performance in overseas markets is equally impressive. From January to November 2025, BYD’s cumulative overseas sales have surpassed 910,000 units. Full-year overseas sales are projected to exceed 1 million units, far surpassing the initial target set at the beginning of the year.

Regarding global expansion, BYD has established a clear objective: to sell half of its vehicles overseas by 2030.

To support this global growth, BYD has adopted flexible market entry strategies. In response to the EU’s tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, BYD swiftly shifted its manufacturing focus to Turkey, leveraging lower production costs and favorable trade regulations.

Concurrently, BYD is investing in a fleet of seven car carrier ships to gain better control over its supply chain and streamline delivery processes to Europe and South America.
